Hello once more everybody ! Having purchased all the appropriate equipment i am now ready to start working on the chassis of the 110. I will not attempt to weld it myself as i have little experience. I have found an expert to do it using my equipment. However just to double check everything and to gain welding knowledge i would like to know what are the appropriate settings for the MIG welder. More specifically please let me know of the wire feed speed, amperage etc.
Thank you in advance !

Start in the middle and go from there!
Obviously different settings apply depending on the thickness of steel you’re going to weld, low amps and wire feed for thin stuff, high amps and faster wire speed for thicker stuff. Some welding units come with basic charts in the instruction book or inside the wire cabinet.
Just need some scrap metal to practice with.

You are asking a question I have wanted answering for years!
The advice you will probably be given is that it depends on everything. Thickness of metal to be welded, type of joint, type of gas you are using , thickness of wire, type of wire, etc, etc.
You have to trust the welder, who will be doing the work, to be able to feel his way through your equipment and your situation.
Question is, why is he using your gear?
At the end of the day you want the weld to have sufficient penetration, not too much excess wire to make clean up too long, and as anyone will tell you, when it sounds like bacon frying the weld is going well. and no, I am not a good mig welder, I learnt on ARC and although everyone tells me I should therfore be able to mig weld easily, I can't but then as others have said it is probably that my gear if cr@p which is a shame as it was a Xmas present from the whole family, one of whom is a good mig welder!
Best of luck!

have you a pic of your welder, and surely your expert would know

Thanks for the quick replies guys ! From research i have found that regarding amperage, the setting must range from 120-130 amps. The wire feed speed i think must be set to 250-340 ipm. Let me know if i am wrong !

Piece of metal on the bench and weld on different settings until you get the best finish.
Get a pic online to see what it should look like.
Then away you go.

^^ what he said. Piece of same thickness on a bench and start on lowest setting and wire speed half way. Work away from there moving up the amperage and changing the wire speed. Make sure to work piece doesn't get too hot as it will require less amps.
