Long story short.

Replaced wheel hub with abs sensor already in place on disco 2.

Have wire from old abs sensor coming from ecu under glove box into engine bay and need to join the two wires.

Would stripping the wires down, wrapping them around each other and covering in electrical tape do the job or would something better be needed.

There is no issue with polarity on abs sensor wires so doesnt matter which wire is attached to which (two separate wires in each abs sensor wire)

If u still have the old sensor there put this into the new hub, if not get hold of some plugs from a scrapyard and put plug on the wire coming from ECU ... or every time when u will have some sensor issues u will undo/redo that wiring improvisation.

this method of connecting any cables is a total NO! NO!.
and if the join is in a wet area doing this will allow the cabel to rot, then you'll need to replace the loom.
a water proof join is best outside the car, and a soldered join on the inside is the best way.

if you really need a small join outside solder and used adhesive lined heat shrink to cover the connection.
