Hi Everyone,

I know this is a long shot as its hard to identify noises, my freelander 1 has recently developed a sort of tinkering noise that sounds like two pieces of metal tapping together. I cant hear it at a stand still and its not there all the time, when i do hear it it gets faster as i excellerate.
A friend said it may be wheel bearings but i've just had two new tyres fitted and the guys fitting couldn't see any problems with the bearings, also just passed its MOT no problem.
it runs and feels fine just annoying more than anything, any ideas?????
thanks in advance.

There's a very small heat shield on the front pipe in the exhaust system that is directly underneath the engine sump. It's worth taking off your undertray to make sure that it hasn't come loose and is rattling around. Mine had and I simply put a large hose clip around it and tightened it up just enough to stop it jangling around :).

That's my first thought.

You haven't had the air filter box off recently have you? The captive nut rattles and drives you slowly mad if you haven't 'caught' it when putting the lid back on!
