Mazda RX8 Seats Fitted

Hi guys

Me and son andy spent the latter end of today fitting our Mazda rx8 seats not had chance to wire them in yet as we needed some fuses and some fuse holder's but when i was driving it yesterday to silverdale i noticed the original driver's seat was very uncumfatuble from when i last drove it so we decided to fit the Mazda seats in and what a difference they have made, sat higher up and i can see most of the bonnet and wings now, really cumfy, and look great too

Looks great! You were not seeing over your bonnet before? You needed some phone books

How long is it gonna take for you to get to your battery now?

The Rattler is now a zoom zoom.

Haha yeah we have made them quick release with for now just 4 x normal nuts holding each of them on but plan to replace them with wing nuts to make it easier

You could make the quick release even faster by drilling holes in the studs and use some split pins

They look good but I guess a bit heavier. I am a BMW fan and had many coupes, I always wondered how the BMW e30 325is or e30 M3 Recaro seats would fit. They are fairly light and have 5 way adjusters. great lumbar support and very easy to remove.

You now need to custom make some landy emblems and fit them into the rotary design in the head rest. You might be inspired to drive it like a Zoom Zoom and the cops will Boom Boom ya :lol:

Is it a 90 you have? I have a 3 door 110 and I am almost 6 feet tall. I wishedI had some more leg room and more room to recline the back like that in my CSW

I looked at the MUD UK rear bulk head bar as an option. I can cut and weld in a half roll cage too to grain some room too. Would be nice to add some more comfy seats and do with some more room up front.

You would hate comfy seats, being all hunched over a off centre steering wheel is a part of the Defender charm.

Lol,I'm agree. Trust me, I was looking at the possibility of doing a tilt steering mod but not much you can do with that design.

I will get a smaller steering wheel with a boss that maintains the original steering wheel height.

I do get the odd back pain jolts, not sure how the stock seats will feel. Have not driven my red Landy, will rebuild the engine soon and will see how it feels later.

Don't know Rattlers height but too high of a seat will tell on your back if you are shorter and have to reach for the pedals.

I'm going to Morocco with standard seats in my XS, if they end up being unbearable I will swap them for tdci ones or just go buy a G Wagon instead lol.

Yeah will do, we have already cut out the rear bulkhead where the original seat went as son is a bit taller than me he must be at least 6' tall but we are thinking about getting on of those rear bulkhead bar kits and doing away with the old rear bulkhead

The seat is still in the same position as the old driver's seat was give or take a few mill and not noticed any difference in feel

Just in case you don't know there is an adjustable sliding bracket behind the dash just slacken the nut and bolt and adjust to suit

Since we have to pay a fortune in shipping here and then 300% taxes and duty, I will make my rear bulkhead bar or a half internal roll cage.

Mud UK also makes seat rail extenders. Yes I know of the adjustment under the dash, I saw that when I pulled my CSW dash apart.

There is quite a bit you can do if you have welder to reinforce the cross sectional area where the rear bulkhead is.

Yeah i think we will decide properly when we replace the chassis next year

I have 2 of these to fit at some point, the current seats are crucifying my back

They are each mounted on two pieces of 3" x 2" box section steel running across rather than along under the runner's but think one pic shows the passenger seat on rubber mounts that we tried first but the seat was to wabbly then decided to do it this way.

before we did this we ground out the rivets that hold the original Mazda seat fixing mounts and used one of the rivet holes to each end of the seat runner's drilled out to 8mm to fasten them in place.

the main thing is to make sure the back of the seat goes over the lip where the seat box bolts to the rear bulkhead.

if you have a cubby box fitted it mite be a good idea to remove the Mazda seat belt anchor off the seats they do fit the landy seat belts but with the drivers seat we fitted it with the anchor still attatched and when we came to shut the door it just about shut fully so we will need to sort this a.s.a.p.

Ok, thanks. I might try it this weekend.

I still have the centre seat at the moment, but I'm guessing it won't fit once I put the RX8 seats in. So I think I will probably end up with a cubby box.

Yeah we are not really happy with our cubby box and plan to replace it for a slimmer one at some point

Son has just reported back with his daily commute from Wythenshawe - Crewe most of it motorway the drive is great and should be ideal for long runs, its a shame the 90 isn't wider as it would look good with 4 more in the back
