hey all.

Im having a bit of an argument (with my freelander 1 2.0 Di) - whether to rebuild her or put another engine in. but then i thought - why not a bigger one - a much bigger one. (kv6, rv 220 turbo or likewise) - hopefully something that will fit nicely into the car.

SO - the question is - how can i get aournd 175 hp in my car- and worth the struggle fitting working etc.

thx

(and what does land rover (officially) say about max engine size on freelander 1! (cant seem to find it) :)

Buy a V6, they came as standard with a KV6

No manufacturer publishes details about the maximum engine size that can be fitted to their cars, and anyway, not all engines of the same capacity are the same size so a max engine size would be meaningless

Not to mention the tank and all fuel lines would need to be either completely replaced or drained and cleaned thoroughly. You'd need to change instruments etc as well

thx everyone ... think ill go for the v6 - and a couch!!! ;-)

(ps you sure you can squeeze a 150 hp out of the original motor?? how fast will it then wear down/explode?)

The L series or DI 2.0 L will make a reliable 150 Bhp with the rite mods. It's a very strong engine and Rovers most reliable. However if you want ultimate power the V6 is the way to go ;)

From one of these maybe:

???????

dont go for a kv6 unless yu like hgf - the L series can be easily boosted with a rover 220 turbo.

Although the Kv6 can suffer HGF, it's by no means as common as in the 1.8. It is usually the rear bank of cylinders due to their proximity to the bulkhead. Even so, HGF should be a realitively rare occurance. Never had it go on my V6 , and my mate with the M-Sport says he never had any problems with HGF either, and that's from a vehicle that is thrashed on a regular basis.
Even the legendary 300Tdi suffers HGF, so too the Td5, so it's not confined to petrol Freelanders.

And I thought we'd turned a corner??
The KV6 doesn't pop HGs like the 1.8! It's low water level from unseen leakage that causes it, or the coolant not bled correctly after the system has been drained.
Trust me they ain't that bad or I'd not own any KV6 powered vehicles , I have 2 ;)

This ^^^^
And the V8 to ;)

Remove the rear seats, and mid mount a V8 and disco transmission. You will need a Miller transfer box to reverse he rotation........

apparantly all wants me to build a spacerocket out of my freelander 1 - currently i modded it with a nuclear submarine engine, 2 jet boosters and a deskfan.. works fine :)
