A couple of days ago i noticed at a junction and waiting for a gap, foot on brake and left foot covering clutch, the clutch pedal went down an inch or so. Lifted off and pumped pedal and got pressure back. Today its happening more with more travel and difficulty selecting gears. There are no leaks so fluid is getting behind seals and traveling back. Any ideas as to which cylinder it could be? I've been told that if it were the slave, it would show a leak.

it may well be leaking they dont hold much fluid ,id replace both, often air is sucked in on return stroke pressing pedal again will bleed it ,a sign it hasnt much life left

This is a bit similar to what I have been experiencing

Last weekend after we got below -11c and the next morning there was no pressure in the clutch. No visible leaks but fluid was low... topped up and pumped pedal for 5-10 mins. Pressure came back slowly and was fine. Fluid hadnt gone down.. Fluid still hasnt gone down a week later but there is only pressure in the clutch further down. There is a good bit of travel in the pedal before it reaches pressure.

Any ideas?

Rubber goes hard when cold and soft and supple when warm. In extreme cold the seals are more likely to leak. VW's used to bugger their hydraulics up for a past time in cold weather.

Same happened to me when we had that cold snap the other week. Clutch went to the floor. For the cost of the parts you may as well change both master and slave. Same also happened to my 90 a few years back. Just change both. Beats breaking down somewhere because you didnt.

Just ordered slave, master and flexi hose, delphi(not LR but not BP). Should get it by the weekend and hopefully on by Monday. Need to tow the wifes clio to main dealer to sort out auto box so need good clutch.

Sorry this has nothing to do with the question, but the thread name made me laugh :D
