major problem urgent

I noticed oil in header tank Laat night and a nasty oil leak nr power steering pump. Now just been out for a drive and a lot of clunking and grinding from underneath.also water coming out of little breather pipe from transfer box.

I'd suggest the IRD has failed. Has the VCU been checked recently and are all tyres identical? If not then there's a real possibility that the IRD has shat itself.

I thought that...vcu not been checked while I've had the car. If that's the case then I'm afraid she has to go.i cant afford to throw that kind of money at it

Presumably the VCU was removed because the IRD was on its last legs. It sounds like the those legs have now bitten the dust. I'd be draining the IRD and see what comes out. It sounds like the IRD is FUBAR to me though.

That depends on your skills. It's about a 4 to 6 hrs job, to swap out a IRD, more if it's the first time.

For it to be the IRD breather the cooler would be leaking and would already have pushed all the oil out for then water to come out.

I wouldn't imagine that would be a rapid development, so you're IRD has been lubricated by coolant for a while.

I've seen it where the bearings have collapsed so much that it's worn a hole through the cooler. This displaces the oil through breather, then the coolant follows. The IRD is scrap, so needs replacing.
