Major oil leak

Hi my Freelander 1.8 series 1 has just dumped it''s oil with it covering the rear window and tail gate. I cannot find where it's coming from. The engine runs ok,plugs are clean, driveway covered!!!. Any suggestions. Have run comp test all even. Oil seems to be coming from lower section of engine. Is this a common fault? Is it a relativly easy fix?.If so what parts will I need. Help

Found the problem. A cracked sump!!! No impact damage noted appears just cracked possible manufacturing/metal fatigue.

loose oil filter perhaps?

Wash the engine, fill it with oil and run it, watch where the black stuff is leaking from. Oh!! and :welcome2: Let's hope you're not yet another one post wonder eh!

Only way to check for sure is to remove the engine undertray, de-grease the engine then run it so you can see where the leak is coming from. When I first got my 1.8 it had 2 quite bad oil leaks, first was from the oil filter that had started to rust and split and the second, from the front crankshaft oil seal which was an easy fix if you are confident about changing a cambelt.

Check also the cam cover oil seal.

No I'm note a one time wonder. Many thanks for information. Fault turned out to be a cracked engine sump. No impact damage found. According to mechanic seems to be a common fault on older F/Landers he has seen.

i had that once but in a mondeo after hitting some bricks in the road I did not think i had done any damage and 1 hour later on the motor way engin gave up did not hear anything before that due to my music any way the aa man said mention it to you insurance and i did result new engin
