Hi Guys,

A simple one hopefully, and i have searched the forum but can't find anything. (more than likely the way i searched.

What is the bulb type for main beam?

Why you may ask well.....the wife.....she wanted HID in so purchased a set and fitted them, now she is complaining about the main beam looking s&!t and wants the bulbs to look the same. I have explained the time it takes to start the HID's so it is pointless but as women do she won't listen. So want to get a set for the main beam (also i can get other stuff for the RR in with this purchase......;).

So can i fit 100w std bulbs and will the cabling take it or is it another HID kit......

Cheers
Phil

Shouldn't have HID in the dipped or main lamps, the reflectors and lenses aren't designed for them and generally cause more glare to oncoming traffic. Sure you can see better, but people coming towards you get blinded. Yeah, I know the Rangie self levels but I'm not talking about that. My tuppence worth! Anyway, HID in main beam is silly, can't flash them and switching from dipped to main will be a time period before they come on full brightness, 100 watt bulbs too risky for the cabling, plus you could fry the BeCM, there's no fuses or relays, the MOSFETS inside the BeCM do all the switching, and you wouldn't want to fry that! Stick some blue tinted 100% brighter type bulbs in? And swap the dipped HIDs for the same......... :)

Cheers Alan,

Sounds like an ok plan, but what type of bulb is it for the main beam, is it a H1, H3, H4 or H7 or is it anothe type. I know the dipped is a H4 and the bulb in the main beam is different, i'm suspecting a H3 but it didn't say on either of them.

Just so i can purchase the correct bulbs.

Cheers

I think it's a H1, looking through the front lens it's single element and appears long, and I seem to recall the wiring connector is a cap rather than a loose wire. I was gonna pull the bonnet and properly check, but the heavens opened so I ran off!

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the info, i'll pop out and purchase some tomorrow as it failed its MOT today on one of the main beam bulbs and the drag link so a bit of work next week :)

Cheers
Phil
