I think you will find that you have to use the bosch Maf, unless you have Rover Rons box of tricks.

My understanding of a pieburg is they dont work right on a standard car (I could be wrong), you need a box o tricks from rover ron, give them a ring apparently they know what their talking about and I will certainly be talking to them when I return from my jollys Tuning-diesels for cheaper diesel tuning. heres the link if it works. if not just google roverron

WHY CAN'T I LEAVE THE MAF UNPLUGGED?

Some owners have been advised that its okay to just leave the maf unplugged. This is not a good idea for the the following reasons:

a) Not only is there no air flow measurement, but no intake air temp sensing either so the ecu defaults to -5C. This results in over fuelling, especially in warm weather leading to poor fuel consumption and lump running.

b) The lack of air temp sensing means the timing is not optimum as the ecu uses the IAT to adjust the injection timing.

c) The ecu's overrun fuel cut off feature may be disabled, also making fuel consumption worse and engine braking worse.

d) Performance is worse: A higher revs on the L series - the engine won't rev past 4000rpm and on the 75/ZT/TD4 there is a stodgy, choked feel probably due to the overfuelling.

Yes last fred wez correct. . .disconnect the maf as a get yer home or a test, if you leave it disconnected your not running efficiently, also the pierbourgh maff is not a compatible with the Bosch [so only with a Rover Ron's gismo]. . . . . .:)

Another tip for you Andy, is to fit an egr bypass if you haven't already. They're regularly sold on ebay & Ron has some info on his website about them.
Glad you got your MAF sorted, it sounds like yours was truly dead.

Thats my next mod . . . .ive had it blocked off for a long time ,but gonna take off the inlet manifold un clean it [bet its full er ****e] and fit a new by-pass fingy ,also gonna change my decompresion filter last done bout 45,000 on bout 95,000 . . . . .still running at around 40% vedge/converted to bio. . . . . . .

I must admit i chickened out on removing the manifold, though I know it would benefit from a good clean out. I tend to be heavy handed & easily overtighten, or snap bolts or plastic items so I just cleaned what I could & left alone as the car is driving well now. Maybe in future though.

***UPDATE***

did a fuel test today.

run car out of fuel and stuck a gallon in then run it out again:eek:

with duff maf: 22mpg, no power, unhappy missus:(

with new maf and roveron box: 32mpg, loads of power, happy missus:D

best 100quid i've spent on it:p

I thought you were going to say "now won't run 'cos one of the injectors has sucked up some crud from the now emtpy tank.

100 quid you say, was it 2nd hand, or is the price for a new un
