:welcome2:hi everyone , i need to clean the maf sensor on my v8 thor engine ,can you tell me a) what spray to use and b) how to use it , i.e. does it just have to be sprayed into the vent after disconecting it from air filter ? any help would be appreciated as its been running like a pig on petrol for the last week .the name of the spray and where to obtain it would be helpful as ive been to 3 autofactors and asked them for maf sensor cleaner and they just look at me and dont have a clue what im talking about ?????? your help would be appreciated very much,,,cheers mozz :confused::confused::confused::confused:

carb cleaner or brake cleaner but no guarantee's on working

Hi Mozz,

You might find this of some use for reference;

Cleaning a Mass Air Flow Sensor | eHow.com

I use intake cleaner, as suggested, otherwise known as carb cleaner or brake cleaner. Its basically a strong decreaser solvent in an aerosol can.
Its highly flammable so would recommend using it only with engine cold or atleast cool, and if the engine is running keep the stuff well away from sources of ignition (like the ignition coil terminals).
Better still is the unplug the MAF and remove it out of the engine bay for cleaning.
Somtimes works, sometimes doesn't.

Its one part thats always worth having a spare of in the garage ;)

Brake cleaner is basically alcohol and will evaporate with no residue. you must use this in brake system work.
Carb cleaner (some contain Acetone) has some other stuff in that will leave an (oily) residue. For many thing they can be used interchangable but for some things you must use the specified solvent in order to break the crud you want to clean.
Anyone who uses brake parts cleaner to clean throttle valves and around the intake, be warned - what comes out of the tail pipe when started is very toxic....
