Hi people, I'm just replacing the studs on my manifold. Some nob had put threaded bar in! Anyway ones pulled the thread out, ones snapped in and ones ok. So question is what do I replace them with? Surely m10 is ott, any suggestions much appreciated. Cheers mike

the one that has pulled the thread get a helicoil for, the one thast snapped drill it all the way through to about 5mm then heat the area upa little and use a ez out.

you obviously dont know how to fit them properly ,they are loose spring rather than insert as its this that allows force to be transmitted side ways rather than up on thread

Helicoils are 'sh1t' but they are the best best option in some circumstances. I much prefer a machined insert where possible.

That is the voice of someone that dosen't know what or how to use the product properly.
they have the attitude it didn't work ( they used it wrong) so its ****. Do you know millions of dollars of equipment are saved every year by that product.

You are quite wrong, I use them all the time. For example the wheel hubs on Porsche 996 and Boxsters are aluminium and are prone to the brake caliper retaining threads failing the second or third time a caliper is removed for maintenance. As these cars are getting a few years old now, when we service the brakes it is quite usual to have to helicoil one or more of the caliper retaining threads.
So in a normal week I probably use two or three helicoils in this application alone, but I still don't like them, They are a solution to failed threads but in my opinion not the best.

Ok so I ended up tapping it out to m10, guess what the problem is now? Yep, there's no room for a socket on the nut! Haha. So any ideas? I could really do with a m8-m10 stud but can't find any on google. Hopefully someone will save the day :)

most bolts on aircraft are helicoil'd... steel/ti bolts cause bad corrosion in aluminium!

they work spot on on manifold studs. did all of the manifold studs on my mates 6 pot toyota supra turbo and it hasnt had any problems 2 years later.
