Hi just looking for some advise, my disco2 went into limp mode just as a 40 min motorway journey was coming to a end, I managed to get it home but when I tried to start it after parking up, the battery was flat there was a slight squeak that got louder more more I accelerated while I was in the motorway, my disco had a refurbished xyz a year ago it had a new battery 4 months ago and a new alternator fitted about 8 months ago, what would drain my battery after a 40 min drive and could my issue be down to a loose earth, iv also had water dripping from the rear sunroof switch the same week this happened maybe the water was messing with wires, any help would be appreciated thanks

I had a similar issue a couple of years ago!!
Limp mode!
Would not start!
Alternator not doing its job!!

I had done all of the initial (First Aid) checks! And eventually found that the Alternator had a wiring problem!? That was fixed! But would still not start?
Second opinion was needed! Rang friend working in Landrover garage!
Told him what had happened, what I had done and checked!
Last thing that I had not checked was the 'Relays'!! Relay was purchased (as no Landrover garages around? I think it was a Relay used for BMW!!) After a bit of Sherlock Holmes investigation with the relays!! Old/damaged (did not know it was damaged until i got it home!!) one replaced! One my way home :D

Hi, first of all you have to check if that alternator is actually charging the battery or not so charge well the battery with charger then start the engine and measure voltage on the battery, if you dont get around 14V you have a charging issue which can have various causes

Sorry for the late reply iv had no access to my account for awhile, my indicator relay was broken I took this out and went for a 5 mins drive, the M&S stopped flashing an it’s been fine ever since but iv tried fitting a new relay but when I put the indicator on the new relay clicks and the lights don’t work hopefully I’ll find the issue over the weekend, I did change the front indicator bulb just before it all stopped working thanks for your reply

Which "indicator relay"? Nothing related to indicators could cause limp mode whatsoever
I thought that myself! it’s usually battery or xyz related but soon as I took the left indicator relay out from under the steering wheel it all stoped drives fine now, the battery kept draining over a few days when it wasn’t in use, I found this online…. “ if a short circuit or over-volt has happened on one side of the relay then it can cause a stuck open/closed circuit on the other side.” If the relay is broken it can stay open, acting like iv left the indicator on so couldn’t that drain my battery over a few days no??

That makes absolutely no sense...

As long as the relay is clicking when you switch to indicator it's certainly not "broken" on the coil's circuit it can have problems only on the contact can't drain the battery if the bulb doesnt stay on but then a new relay would have cured that indicator issue. You have to rule out that fusebox first as i told you in your other thread

To be honest iv heard from a few that your the guy who knows the ins and outs of them all, I was just stating the issue I had and what I done for it to stop, I found the issue it was the air compressor the passenger side draining my battery even though I’m on springs or so I was told, but again thanks for the input, the indicator issue must be a different problem I just thought it was related because it all happened the same time Thanks again
