m8 if you go for a diesel get a tuning box or get it re-mapped cos they`re pitifull.

Yep as standard there a bit slow of the mark.
However i will put my 2.5 turbo diesel up against any 4 ltr v8( not 4.6) and wipe its arse.

I Spent 400quid and turned my average performing diesel into a 4x4 power house.
Change air filter for a performance one( increase of at least 10 percent).

slick 50 engine ( increase in power 5 percent).

change back boxs on exhaust for performance ones( increase in power 10 percent).

Buy a performance box (ncrease of upto 30 percent).

and if you want then replace intercooler but that will take you over your 400 pound s buy another 250.( increase of another 15 percent.
If you do all that then you are gonna push 200 horse.

Also my diesel is a manual so that will give it a couple of seconds over an auto.

cummon on you petrol heads lets race and see if your puny 4 ltr petrol guslers can beat a central heating boiler?:)

what is a performance box? i take it you dont mean exhuast as you mentioned that above?

A performance box plugs in between fuel pump and ecu. it literrally takes 15 mins to fit.

This then alters the way the fuel is burnt giving you more mpg and uptp 30 percent more power.

type tunit or dragon performance into google and look at there web site.
also try allard intercoolers( expensive but very good company).
I was lucky and got my box of ebay for 150 quid.:)

Hi
I am also getting 21.9 mpg when I calculate it, though the computer shows 24-25 to work and back, dual carriageways with lots of roundabouts

On a long run to London, 160 miles each way the computer showed 32 and the calculated mpg was 28, that was at a steady 65-70 mph
Attached is a pic of the computer after being reset on a dual carriageway,

I am wondering if the high mpg’s stated on this thread are off the trip or calculated

Looks like I may have to think about replacing injector 4 with the sensor?
Having said that I prefer to try the simple stuff first, she was terrible at starting and after buying 6 injector from Island4x4 for £17 she starts almost instantly

Any idea’s

If you can find a good LPG petrol, you get the best of both worlds, good performance and economy. I run a 99 4.6 with gas averaging 15mpg (according to pooter). My gas costs 46p per litre which calculates out to approx 34mpg compared to cost of diesel at 104 ppl.

Another option is a clean low mileage petrol, usually cheap because of running costs, and get it converted yourself. Conversions are coming down in price, plus you'll have the benefit of knowing where / how it was all fitted.

are the petrol mpg figures for a 4.6 or 4.0ltr ,, as i have a 4.0ltr and woz wondering about mpg figs for that ??????
