Ok so having had the gearbox go on my P38 (Wednesday), found a 53k L322 with FSH I then have the front diff go today (Friday).

Someone somewhere is taking the p***.

Question : how much for recon diff and new prop and where the hell do I get one ? Searching all the usual RR parts suppliers gives me a big fat zero.

Should have checked that the recall had been done.

Recall should look like

Strathearn have checked the diff and are happy that the Ashcroft coupler and new prop will fix. Fingers crossed.

Interesting though that the recall on the front diff for this was done in 2004 accoring to the dealer who searched the history for me (thanks to Taggarts in Mothewell). As such that is why I believe the replacement was simply more of the same v's the more intelligent recall version used after I think (?) 2006 which does seem to fix permanently.

I wonder whether the recall version needed a whole new front diff with UJ etc. May save up for one for next time.

If it happened a day after you parted cash, get the seller to fund the difference. Why spend your own money on this problem?

My first thoughts are with a speed signal sensor....as hippo says the problem with doing the fluid change is it can dislodge harmless debris into the box as ATF is a very good detergent.

If some of that crap gets to the various sensors it can cause issues....most commonly the speed sensors.....

This is why I don't recommend a total fluid change.....

Ohhhh i wonder if to do the filter they followed the official procedure and took the selector switch of the side....

When i did mine i left it in place as i know what PITA it is to get back correctly.....

Get them to look at the adjustment of the selector cable to the XYZ switch on the side of the box....
