lookin for abit of advice please, had a couple of sqeaks and rattle but most are all sorted due to wheel bearings collapsed and seized prop UJ's but i now have one coming from the transmission brake. When driving its scratching but if i apply the handbrake slighty the noise dissapears. i removed the rear prop and the drum has abit of movement obviously causing the shoes to rub. Am i right in thinging the it could be the output shaft on the transfer box? is this a case of replacing the bearing to remove the play or is there more to it?

Righto the hand brake drum should be secured to the output flange securly with the propshaft bolts.

If its secured to the propshaft flange and you have movement you most certainly have a collapsed output bearing in the output flange. You may also see some oil leaking out from the flange.

Options well you could replace the bearing but I suspect you may hyave done more internal damage. Personally I would look for a Second Hand transfer box.

Just for you info the transfer box is an LT230 and the gearbox is an LT77.

Could just be your hand brake that's not adjusted correctly! Chock wheels, hand brake off,in neutral, jack one rear wheel off the ground . Turn the prop shaft and listen for shoes touching drum, there is a bolt on the back of the back plate turn it anti-clockwise to back off the shoes.

when you say play,

do you mean it wobbles OR you mean you have some play rotational?

BIG difference depending on what yousay it could be either option above

Hand brake rubbing causes clunks at it nips up the slack in the transmission!

If it was your output shaft bearings it would be pishing oil out too !! With new bearings and seals there's always a little play in the out put shafts !

no mate its lift play but ive just pulled it down and its a collapsed bearing its all stripped and cleaned now, going to get new bearing, seal and gasket tomorrow not really a big job, but i will keep an eye out for a second hand transfer box but for now replacing the bearing will have to do. thanks for the help
