me and my mate are reletive newcomers to the off road scene, I have a 200Tdi 90 with an LT77 gearbox, while he has a 300Tdi 110 with an R380 box, we take it in turns to use them off road and what a difference there is between them, the LT77 has got bags of low down torque and will trundle along all day in low range second, where as my mates R380 seams gutless in low range and the need to go through all the gears is very apparent. The thing is, is this normal? has anyone else made a direct comparison between these two boxes?

More than likely your 200 is in a better state of tune than his 300 which can sometimes suffer power loss due to age. I have a 300 in my 110 in excellent condition with very low mileage but my old disco 200 engine was far better, much more torque and mid range power I found. On the other hand I have never driven two landrovers which drive the same! some just go better than others its very strange.
And yes dont forget the 110 is quite a bit heavier than the 90.
I dont find my 300 a problem though it does have plenty of go in low box and like yours will do anything in 2nd.
