Hi all,
Am a new owner of a used LR DS 2017 plate. Bought 3 months ago from an independent dealer. After a week or so took it to an independent LR specialist who said car was fine and good. After another week fitted a ghost 2. Then after a month or so took it to same specialist as had minor issue with the car. Ghost 2 was on that day. Car diagnosis had 17 fault courses including P-0341-91 which possibly indicates timing chain. They cleared the codes but said would need timing chain replacement based on the code. And also wanted to do perform a Picocope test. I eft and contacted the dealer and took the car back to them after a week . But this time I put ghost on valet mode. Dealer has now come back to me noting they took the car. To 3 different garages and no code has been found. Now I am in dilemma. Do you guys think it’s ghost firing off random fault codes as on was on and not doing so on valet mode?? Any expert opinion would help please.
 
It depends how the immobiliser is configured, personally I've had nothing but 'ghost' problems caused by them. We now insist that they are electrically disconnected for any diagnosis jobs.
I'd also question how anyone can commit to a timing chain replacement based upon a DTC without any supporting diagnostics & measurements. Most immobilisers will set DTC's if there is a start attempt without the disable sequence or unlock code being correctly input, the immobiliser doesn't generate the DTC's itself, but the (dis)connected systems do.

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply. Car runs smoothly and no rattling what so ever. I might have done few wrong attempts after installing but would that cause faults like ‘ camshaft position sensor readings do not correspond to powertrain control module specifications.’ fault which the LR emphasising on possible timing chain replacement indicator?it also had other faults but after putting ghost on valet mode nothing is coming up. Very confused who to believe. Dealer or the specialist. I am thinking of asking ghost installer to come and check his installation. Dealer said as there is no mechanical issue and no fault codes he does think timing chain is going. Said he has sent the car to 3 garages already.
 
Impossible to say without knowing the configuration - but - if they have interrupted the CMP signal, (i.e. to cause a lossy of sync between the CMP & CKP) then yes, it's most likely the root cause of the DTC. It would be helpful if the 'specialist' had given some indication of the status of the DTC, i.e. current or stored / historic.
Did you buy it from a LR dealer or a trader? it seems odd that a dealer would farm out the diagnostics to other workshops - to me, the 'specialist' going from zero to one hundred on replacing the timing chain without confirmatory tests & measurements is a red flag.

ETA - typically worn timing chains will announce themselves with a brief rattle on a cold start long before they are stretched enough to set a plausibility or CKP/CMP synchronisation DTC.

It is from a trader. He said none of the garages have found any fault codes. My LR specialist erased all the codes after diagnosis. They wanted to perform a picoscope test to see if it was engine replacement or just the timing chain. They said they were confident with that error code it was timing chain. My thought is now it also picked up 17 faults that they erased at the same time. So, something might have triggered all those codes as if it was timing chain issue only relevant codes would have popped.

Don’t have any rattle in the engine during cold start. I don’t know how else they can check if the car is not rattling. Don’t want to change prematurely and then again don’t want to leave a problem hanging for long if there is any.
