Cheers khaos, i did notice that if I put it into 1st and high and just moved a couple of inch then tried to reingage it seem alot easier, is that normal? just one of those LR tricks you need to learn?

Not sure if it's normal but mine's always like that and it's still fine so I guess it's just a little trick you pick up on. If you read the manual it says diff lock can be engaged up to 10mph but range switching should be done stationary but I change in the way i said before every time. It also says max wading depth is 500-600mm but I mines been above bonnet level. You just have to learn your landy because each is different, for example I know what rattles and squeeks are usual on mine so if I get a new one I can investigate.

Another thing is you can put it in diff lock and it not be in diff lock if that makes sense. It will engage next time it is aligned. Make sure when you disengage diff lock the light goes out because it won't disengage whilst there's tension on it. If the light doesn't go out you need to reverse whatever you did last. So say you turned right going forwards, you need to reverse back to where you just came from until the light goes out.

The final thing you can do, if no end of swerving and reversing puts the light out, is jack up a wheel. I've never had to do this personally because it will always disengage by reversing.

I drove my 19J all the way back from Hull to lancashire at a constant 60+ no probs, it loved it! As for the noise, erm, what? Sorry it was a week ago and my ears are still pouring blood! It wasn't that bad TBH, but a def noise over the engine, think it may be the off road tyres as Ive now had time and no real wheel movement on jacks. I'll find out when my wheel overtakes me F1 style. Whilst I'm on, my diff lock is really hard to engage into gear, need to really faf for about 5 mins to engage - worn? Replacment something, maybe gear linkage?

Cheers
You shouldnt have a problem if your lubrication and coolant systems are 100% and you use the right oil and change it frequently.Glad youre driving yr90 and enjoying hope you will wean of freelander in time.I agree with khaos comments re difflock, just want to add that a lot of owners never use low range or difflock(my neighbour didnt know that her TD5 110 had them lol).Could be the lever is just stiff and will fre up with more use:)
