I bought an 1991 3.9 V8 Vogue SE earlier this year! I absolutely love it but as anyone who owns one will know the fuel consumption is terrible!! I have put it into a body shop to get a full restoration done but want to know what the good points and bad points of fitting an LPG kit would be? I don't want to ruin the value or history of the car in the future but if it was LPG I would be able to use it more often! I am the 3rd owner of this Classic and it has loads of history too!

Any advice on this would be appreciated

I had LPG on my Series 2, and it ran better than on petrol. It paid for itself in less than a year, but I'm sure an efi system's a fair bit more expensive. I'd work out the cost of the system and compare it to how much you're likely to save, I was using mine almost daily.
Also it's a good comeback if you're criticised by the ecoNazis!

I was a big fan of lpg, but it seems to be less popular now and i would imagine its going to be harder to get the lpg, i know of a local garage that is taking the lpg pump out

No issues with mine, been faultless in 60k miles. Mine now runs better on LPG than petrol. Paying on average of 59p / ltr. All comes down to how many miles your intending on doing.

Had a 4ltr Disco on LPG, lost the engine at what I think was early mileage, about 110K the cylinders became porous (was gassed at 50K), the guy that whipped it out and replaced it reckoned the gas was to blame as it runs much hotter - can't say as I don't know, but had the new engine gassed and ran it for a few more years. Only reason I have not gassed either of the current V8’s is that I found it harder and harder to get the gas system serviced at the same time as the car, i.e. finding garages that would do the gas service was the issue. I just decided the pain was not worth the gain, but have to say the actual multipoint gas system was flawless.

I had a LPG system (professionally) fitted to a '93 3.9 thirteen years ago & ended up having to replace the block due to a slipped liner. Opinions are divided as to the wisdom of converting to LPG on a 94mm bore RV8. No offence intended, but I'd say that if you can't afford to run the car on the fuel it was designed for..........
