LPG - ECU Remapping? Really?

I've just been looking at the RPI Engineering web site and they're quite emphatic that if you've had lpg fitted then you need to have the ignition and fueling ECUs remapped otherwise it will eventually go into limp home mode.

It kind of makes sense, the way they explain it, but I've never heard of anyone actually having it done.

Might explain why mine's a bit sluggish on petrol and lpg, but how come my lpg place didn't mention it? He just cleared out the adaptive values and said it would sort itself out. To be honest it's no worse 6 months later than it was, but it's got me wondering...

They have re-worded the web page but its still crap,there is no need to have it chipped.A properly trimmed sequential system will run just as well as on petrol.Trouble is not many are done properly......
 
its all bull****, what may happen is the car's ecu will be reading the lpg emissions via the lambda and if the emmisions are out, i.e rich or lean for too long it will attempt to correct it by adjusting the fueling. this will mea hat the trims will be out when on petrol, the answer and prevention is to have the lpg set up sp it mimics th petrol.e is from rich to lean in the same way petrol does. this is achieved (at least on single point systems) by adjusting the idle screw and bias screw, some als have mixture screws npretty much the same way you would set up a conventional carb.

mine runs sweet on both petrol and lpg, and its not chipped!!!

rpi are full of crap and have very little respect amongst lpg'ers and landrover owners alike!!! they rip people off and tell them porkies whilst doing so!!!


the very latest lpg systems are not adjustable by the user and simply mock the cars fueling and adjust in the same way the cars ecu does!!!

do you honestly think thousands of lpg users go to rpi for the cars ecu to be butchered for no reason!!!

All good points. Doesn't it break some advertising rules, making claims like that or am I being a bit naive? After all, a web site is just as much an advertisement as a newspaper ad surely?

Mine does seem to run as well on petrol as it does on lpg so I'll stop worrying. Got far too many other things to worry about (like my mystery air leak etc).

ive got a two headed goat, would you buy it?? no! why? because you know they dont exist!!!

if someone can't be arsed to do thier homework then they deserve to pay umpteen hundred pounds to be chipped and mapped!! then slapped!!!!
 
RPI Engineering are spreaders of FUD, basically you worry and they are more than happy to assist with opening your wallet while persuading you you are buying security from the contrived problem problem.
 
I had a Prins multi point done on my 4.6 26,000 miles ago and it runs as sweet as a nut, in fact smoother on lpg. Just as GavBriggs says above, the lpg system intercepts the injector "firing" pulses and using a re-writable fuelling map pulses the gas injectors in place of them. The whole system is designed to not interfere with the car itself, and the lambda sensors are still fully fuctional etc etc. I was unaware of these RPI clowns before, but let's face it, if they can't even be bothered to re-write that bizarre text (direct translation from what, Chinese?) then I wouldn't expect much from them other than a rip off. Thanks for pointing them out to everyone.
