Lowering a disco

There are 2 lowered Discoverys and a lowered D90 that compete in the Sunseeker Rally round this way each year.

No worries, I just didn't know of anyone personally. ;)

In some circumstances I can see why someone might do it, but not for me or my mates/most people I know with a Disco!

Every one has raised them/lifted them which does nothing for the handling (of a truck that dosn't handlie great to start with) although does look good. I won't be going off road (live in essex biggest thing im likely to go over is a mini round about) i need something that can tow will fit in car parks (all car parks around here have hight restrictions) and have a pet hate of most things standered (non modified) i've been offered a disco 1 300 that needs some work (welding mainly no surprise there then) and fancy doing somthing different to the norm.:D

why not go for an audi like everyone else has said, an audi will pull bloody well up a hill if its a diesel

No it won't bigger wheels lower profile tyres will be about the same hight as original wheels as you pointed out earlier then lower chassis/body with lower springs lower profile tyres will help handling and lower centre of gravity will help cornering (abit)

thats like fitting a spoiler to a barge to stop it lifting off when going at speed - its a bloody land rover, it doesnt handle that well, its high sided, so fitting low profile tyres and lowering it will have a negligable differance, and jsut make the ride worse

This gets stuck on wet grass any way acording to presant owner (road tyres) lower profile tyres will help less side wall to roll over yes they will cost more.

thats just a **** driver then ;p

Ha ha just spent 10 mins reading the posts, certainly not what i would do to a Disco but hey...each to their own. Let us know the outcome of lowering it, or if you even bough the Disco...If it's only for town use and towing there are motors out there more practical and better Mpg but if its as cheap as you say then...hell, just get it done lol.

Cos i don't want an audi i need to tow things with my buisness i need to do some recovery work cars/vans in ditches ect and i think it was only one person who suggested an audi and yes they can tow but it wont take long to kill it pulling a loaded transit out of a ditch.

Being high sided doesn't make it handle badly having a high centre of gravity does thats one of the reasons i want to lower it. Low profile tyres will make it handle better due to less flex in the side wall of the tyres.

thats just a **** driver then ;p
No **** road tyres and no LSD's

Like what give me an example or three
Here's what i want:-
1- 4 wheel drive for when its slippery (will be keeping original wheels with some chunkier tyres for winter)
2- heavy towing capability when needed
3- Must be able to fit in car parks (hight restriction)
4- Be able to use as daily driver
5- able to carry some tools act without worying about the interia
6- winch for recovery work (or pulling my self out when i get stuck due to having silly wide road tyres fitted )
7- resnable fuel consumption this disco does high 20's my van does low 20's if im lucky
What have you got for me :D

Is it just me or do the deependers in those photos look ****e :eek:

Oldskool, If you want to lower the disco why not just cut your springs down and if you dont like it it wont cost you a lot to get some standard replacements?

Cos thats a bodgers way of doing things and they wont sit correctly on there seats.

Apart from the winch and the local recycling centre (1.8m high) My Disco with HD springs does that .. and gets +30mpg when towing, but that's a different question to springs .. :)

Local carpark barriers are all 2.1m high and i just fit through, though the cb aerial takes a battering .. ;)

Apart from the winch my Navara does all that ^^^ :D

Yep im sure it does but i bet it cost more that £300+vat?? Had one in the workshop last week dont know if it was me but seemed to have very poor turning circle? mitsi animal truck in a couple of weeks ago fooook that thing needed the m25 to turn a full circle
