Lowering a disco

Apart from the winch and the local recycling centre (1.8m high) My Disco with HD springs does that .. and gets +30mpg when towing, but that's a different question to springs .. :)

Local carpark barriers are all 2.1m high and i just fit through, though the cb aerial takes a battering .. ;)

Thats my point jusy wondered what other vehilcles matillda has in mind?????

a standard disco will fit under height restrictions, stick a winch on the front and some gear in the back and it will sit an inch lower anyway

dont waste your money on what you claim is going to be a cheap car - keep it that way

Yep im sure it does but i bet it cost more that £300+vat?? Had one in the workshop last week dont know if it was me but seemed to have very poor turning circle? mitsi animal truck in a couple of weeks ago fooook that thing needed the m25 to turn a full circle

True it cost a little more than that (similar age D110 double cabs are another £3.5k on top of that!!) and it does have a 108 inch wheel base and is about 17 foot over the bumpers, so not the most nimble of motors; however.......

In 4 years of ownership I have only needed a lower ball joint over and above normal filters and bulb/wiper blade replacement. Not many £300 LRs are that reliable :)

Mine's got standard length HD springs on it and don't fit into car parks round our way, they're all restricted to 1.8 or 1.9 metres and the motor sits at 1.968, keep standard springs and put all your crap in the back and you'll fit under no probs.

IMHO lowering it will look like ****e and make it a pig for towing but that's just my opinion it's your motor do what you want to it.

Cos thats a bodgers way of doing things and they wont sit correctly on there seats.

Thought that while i was typing but you mentioned if you didnt like them or they didnt work you be taking them off. Was just a short term suggestion to try to save you a few £££'s in the process :)

Ok lets go back to to the begining one of the reasons i was looking at lowering it was to make it different as i wont be going off road i wont need to lift it and standard is well boring to be honest just wanted to make it a bit different and a knock on affect of lowering it would make it handle a bit better

Yep jap stuff is very reliable dont think any LR is that reliable if every one drove a honda i would probably go bust feeeeking things never seem to go wrong.
What's it like off road?

It is my every day tool, I need it to tow and carry tools and not be afraid of taking if 'off piste' if needed. I also need reliable and am happy to pay the purchase cost of a tool that doesn't let me down. I know of a few LR mechs (like me) who run around in Astra vans and the like! :)

Well it isn't as good as my Discovery, but then it doesn't have the axle travel. It gets me as far as I'd like to go on my own and without a winch.

I use it for setting up trials, cos it takes all the canes and recovery kit in the back and I can pack the family and lunch in the cab.

No **** road tyres and no LSD's

unless you mount a winch on the front you wont be doing much recovery in a lowered disco with slicks. and winching is most likely not recommended for those springs, with winching ideally you want HD springs

plus, recovery is a dangerous thing if you dont know what you are doing, and you say you wont be going off roading so i assume you havent got a great deal of first hand recovery work experience

Where else would you mount a winch on the roof
I tend to stay on the black stuff when im recovering broken down vehicles or pulling peeps out of ditches
Yep recovery can be very dangerous but you dont need to be an off roader to know how to do recovery work
What the springs got to do with winching

Using the correct tool for the correct job you know how far you can take your truck, you can take the family out init without worrying about them getting wet if it drissles (unlike most LR's) still at least with a LR when the water comes in there's normally a rust hole or 4 in the floor to let it out, bet your jap truck hasn't got the self the draining option but then they probably don't leak water in either.

Like what give me an example or three
Here's what i want:-
1- 4 wheel drive for when its slippery (will be keeping original wheels with some chunkier tyres for winter)
2- heavy towing capability when needed
3- Must be able to fit in car parks (hight restriction)
4- Be able to use as daily driver
5- able to carry some tools act without worying about the interia
6- winch for recovery work (or pulling my self out when i get stuck due to having silly wide road tyres fitted )
7- resnable fuel consumption this disco does high 20's my van does low 20's if im lucky
What have you got for me :D
Mine does all that and mines standard  :D
