hi guys, I've had to replace the lower steering column, the piece with UJs both ends. It seems about 10mm too long. There is a funny looking bolt a third of the way down which appears to have a sliding mechanism but God knows what tool you use to undo it to. I don't want to use force to allow for the UJs to fit onto the steering box or the top section

I'm sure there is a knack, but if someone can help it would be appreciated
Thanks guys

Undo the other bolt and slide itup and down to refit and then set at right lèvel which the bolt will pass thru the top and bottom ok and then tighten up

Thanks Haigy. 2 X 13mm bolts either end is it? Not the funny looking bolt head a third of the way up, next to another bolt with a flat head? Sorry, it's not in front of me as we speak

undone 3 X 13mm bolts. The end nearest the steering box has 2 bolts, I thought the other end only had one

you dont undo that , its shaped like that so you dont as its the sliding joint in case of an accident ,you can make ujs slide easier to adjust by opening up the split with a thin taper ie chisel or lever bar

Youl have 2 ujs 1 will have 1 bolt and fixed to the shaft via a rubber.

This is bulk head end

2nd uj has 2 bolts in it. This is steering box end.

Remove the bolts and then fit in place there is a joint cut out of the shaft for the bolt to pass thru with ease

Any trouble theres videos on youtube

Cheers fellas. I've taken out all 3 13mm bolts. The steering box end slides but not enough for the shaft to allow me to slide the 2 ends on. The spline allows some movement but the end hits the UJ and Won't go anymore. I can't see anything that will allow extra movement at the bulkhead end. Very frustrating

Done it boys, thanks for your help. I adjusted the steering wheel to its highest setting and it went on with a few swear words
