Hi lads 300 tdi defender has low volts at cigar lighter around 8 to 9 volts (green ignition wire), if I connect any accessory to it there's no power. Battery is reading 11.5 to 12 volts.
Power to light on cigar lighter reads 11 to 11.5 volts.

What could be causing the low voltage?

There is a spare ignition wire (green) that is also getting 11.5 to 12 v this runs behind the dashboard.

Any help appreciated Jamie

Corrosion on the connection to the cigar lighter, high resistance wire.

Remove the lead from the rear and test that, if it's still low then splice into the other wire and tag that onto the cigar lighter

Thanks, it's still low on the wire itself and without removing the dashboard I can't trace the wire back, splicing I think is the way I'm going to have to go thanks

If your battery is reading 11.5v to 12v at the terminals (which is it?) then either your battery is flat or your meter is inaccurate (is it digital or analogue). A 12v battery should read 12.4 at minimum with no load but more realistically 12.7 / 12.8v. You need to get the basics sorted first and make sure you have a battery that is fully charged and a meter that is accurate.
