I am getting radio interference from the cigar lighter while charging my mobile, the connection feels loose as I am able to spin the lighter in the console and while doing this the interference gets much worse while wiggling it so I am thinking of replacing this. How do you go about removing the lighter, does it just pull out or is it more involved than that? This is on a 2003 Defender TD5, part number of the lighter is YUJ000040PMA. Any help is much appreciated!

Clips on the inside if I remember, just remove the plate it is in [2 screw bolts] and release socket from the rear.
MUD-UK can supply a proper power socket to replace for a fraction of what Land rover want for the crappy lighter.

Ok, so the centre console facia will need to be removed to be able to replace the socket?

Yes, only need to pull it out enough to renew socket. A pic may help, Td5 dash changed a bit over time and possible aftermarket add on items may have been fitted.

on my 110 you take out the small fascia part, unplug the wires and then remove the little light bulb socket on the side, that gives enough clearance to pull it through the hole with the green surround on it. i replaced mine with a USB socket and builtin voltmeter from amazon, much better

If that is the facelift dash I had to remove the centre console, to do that you have to remove the top part of the dash. Easy enough to do, it's only screws.

Early ones are two screws, the facelift dash console is screwed on underneath the top dash section.

I replaced mine with a twin usb voltmeter, look at my old posts it took me ages as the dash needs to come out. Mine is 2005 but it’s definitely a decent upgrade

Yes, on the later model TD5s it's a bit fiddly because you need to take the top part of the dash off, and the centre panel has screws on the top, as well as two near the bottom, and once the centre panel is released it's pretty obvious what's holding the lighter socket. It's not technically complicated, just lots of stuff to undo and put back together again. All the screws are a bit different so remember which ones go where!

The screws, that’s a great point brown well said, I used a bit of cardboard and labelled where they go and screw them into the cardboard, definitely saved a bit of confusion
