low range problem?

hi, when i engage low range (it does go in) it does not work, but stays in high range, am wondering if anyone can shed some light on this, this is for a 1985 110 lt230 transfer box.

have you looked at the linkage to see if its actually engaging properly

Lift the panel under the drivers seat and using a torch you can just see the linkage.
