Hi everyone, i have a td5 disco auto which has a broken hi/low range cable .I have a new one and thought it would be a simple swap but after a few wasted hours i still cant loosen or even get a spanner on the adjustment/cable bracket nuts on top of the transfer box. The manual says to use a crow foot spanner. Tried that along with everything else in my toolbox including one i made for the job but there just doesn't seem enough room to get a tool on the nut. I know someone can tell me different so please, how do you get the b'stard off. I did wonder if i'll end up removing the centre console, drilling out the panel and attacking from the top. Tips please. Cheers, Steve.

It will be pretty tricky to get that udone from the bottom, especially if its siezed/corroded.

You are right that the easiest way would be to whip the centre consol out, drill out the rivets on the transmission tunnel cover plate, and attack it from the top.

It might still be difficult to free off in which case you can undo the bolts holding the cable mount to the T box and do it on the bench.

I hope when you say " new " high/low cable, you didnt mean " brand new " !!.

Cheers.
