Lots of blue smoke, Tappets clearance incorrect?

I have just refitted piston rings and con rod plus reconditioned the injectors. Ran it and all seemed ok then i reset the tappet (0.25mm) and the blue smoke seems to be back??! Could it be if i have set the clearances to tight the values are not closing properly?
Am i right in thinking blue smoke is burning oil and black is diesel ?

Blue smoke is oil...........I doubt that adjusting the valve clearances would make it burn oil......something not right somewhere..:confused:
 
Blue = oil.
Things to check/need fixing: Rings, bores, valve stem seals and even the head gasket.

If you broke a ring putting them on the pistons or putting the pistons in then you'll have issues.

Bores, if they were worn then new rings would last too long. Did you check the ring gaps?

Stem seals, easy fix, often go after lots of miles, no big deal.

Head gasket, if the head didnt go on properly then there is a potential for leak from oil gallery to bore.

Things you can check. Compression test on the bores. Is the oilway pressurised?

itll be the fekkin valve stem oil seals i had it after refurbing my cylinder head it seems it dont matter what make they are or how much you pay for the little rubber buggers theyre gonna be tight on the stems meaning within a few mins of running in theyll grip the valve stem on the up stroke and get pulled out of their seating then stay at the top of the valve stem

i had this with exhaust on cylinder 1 and the inlet on cylinder 3 i ended up putting them all back in again but with a dob of vaselene inside them to help them slide on the shafts :D:D:D
 
ok i think all was in order. However there was one head bolts i couldn't get to as the nut on the injector was spinning so was only set to a torque of 40 not 90. But these stem oil seals seem to be the most likely........
