My darling wife (stupid bovine) has lost my only set of keys and fob for my 1997 V8 Disco 1. I need to move the thing as it's been sat on a public road for the past 5 days (in the rain with the obligatory leaking sunroof - great!). I have searched the forum but can't find a conclusive answer, so....

1) Which is the cheapest/easiet window to replace should I break one for access, or better still is there another way in?

2) How can I then shut the alarm off?

At least then I can get it home. Have contacted the RAC but as it's parallel parked they will charge to put it on skates and slide it out.

Thanks all.

Thanks, thought of that but then the alarm will be going off and I have no way to shut it up, any suggestions though greatly appriciated.

If you must get in without a key, no need to break glass, just run round the rubber window seal on one of the back side windows with a stanley knife and remove glass. New window seal required but cheap enough.

Thanks, great advice but have managed to get a key cut (found vin number) to get into the car, so can get it home now at least.

Still need help though on how to disable the alarm if anyone has any ideas (I don't suppose it's as easy as disconnecting the battery is it?)

Not sure about this, but you may have a bigger problem. If the car was locked with the fob the immobiliser will be on as well as the alarm?

Yea, the key will only get into the car not start it so I'm a long ways of resolving the problem (hoping, ney praying, the keys will turn up). The immobiliser is one of the aftermarket jobbies (place fob on dash to de-activate), I do still have the master for that though, which is summit I suppose.

a good auto electrician should be able to bypass the immobiliser for u, they did my shogun one for me and that was a cat 1 alarm system and it only cost me £60

you can get the remotes on ebay they come up from time to time , if not i got mine from http://www.remotekey.co.uk/about £65
it will need programming by an auto locksmith or the main stealer , alternatively you can post you ecu to remotekey and they programme it for you .... your choice.

Thanks all, so far have a key to get me in the car, from Land Rover dealer cost £6, disconnected the alarm from inside the bonnet (easy clip), and got RAC to take it back. Immobiliser is not a problem as it's not a Land Rover one and nothing to do with remote fob, and I have a spare. Just need new keys now to start the damn thing, £90 from Land Rover (Wooton Bassett) including coding - not so bad. But if anyone has a better (i.e cheaper) solution I would love to know.

Thanks again all for your help so far.

I confused now, the alarm ecu is behind the glove box, what you have disconnected under the bonnet is the sounder this will not stop the hazard flashers flashing in an alarm condition.
Doesn't your door door key fit the ignition switch and why do you need a coded key to start the engine thats not normal for a disco 1 not in the uk any way :)

I have a 96 300tdi, i assume your disco has a similar layout to mine (fob with 2 buttons?)
if you have an aftermarket one also, you an probably have that sorted. The factory one is a different ball game though! If it's like mine, it has a spider behind the dash, if you have this bypassed you will lose the locking etc! There is a kit from landrover, as the spider is known for failing! The system is very hard to get past any other way though!

Could you buy a alarm ecu and matching fobs from a breaker as a set or have a look on the MG-Rover.org forums. Some guys on there are auto sparks and have the gear to sort key fob programming etc.
Hope this helps.

The door key will fit the ignition but not start it, just get the key symbol on the dash. Not sure what it was I disconnected (followed LR dealers suggestion) but the alarm doesn't sound and the indicators don't flash - good enough for me! So I'm happy to leave that as it is and not bothered with the remote (had to be stood right by the car for it to work anyway!), just need a key, or bypass, to start the thing.

Thanks

You really need the remote fob. I'm sure there is a way to reprogramme those key fobs using the key and a spare fob (as if the battery in the fob has been replaced), it's a series of turns in the door using the key etc. It should be in the owners manual.

As pete5570's post above, you can use the series of turns in the door to enter the emergency key access code (EKA) code to bypass the imobiliser, the procedure is in the owners handbook, but you must have the 4 digit code.

The key symbol showing is because your engine is immobilised and needs to be re-mobilised to start, that's what the LR two button fob does.

If you have a two button fob then it's not user programmable, (the single button is) therefore you will need a LR dealer, indi or a company such as Remotekey to do it for you.
Synchronization is what must be carried out when a fob battery is changed,

Why do you need another key, you say you have a key that fits the ignition switch. The bypass is the EKA code.
