Hi Guys,

Managed to lose the key and fob for my 97 Disco V8 Auto.
Long story with lots of no shows, but eventually a locksmith turned up took seconds to open Disco but sadly no keys inside.

He's cut a key by hand which works in the door locks but not the ignition.
Weather has been horrible recently so I said I'd get a new ignition lock to speed things up.

Ended up with a s/h ignition lock with key, fob, all locks and the green box which I understand controls central locking. Cost £70.
Scrappy reckons there's a chance of it working with the immobiliser, but if not I need to bypass it.

Before I start drilling out the bolts on the ignition lock, does anyone know if I need the spider etc from the same vehicle in the scrap yard, or can advise on what I need to do.

Locksmith is backing off from the problem, says it's been going on so long he will return parts and not charge a fee.

I don't care about central locking, alarm etc, just need to get back on the road asap.

Any help will be very much appreciated, I've been off road for a month now.

Cheers

Wookie

Thanks for the reply, sounds like I should be ok.
Didn't have any problems before I lost the keys so I assume spider is ok.

Take care of your keys guys, right pain in the wotsit and wallet to get sorted.

If its a late one, then you wont have a spider anyway, mine is controlled by the alarm ecu and the dds immobiliser on the back of the pump. It should work fine though

Thanks for your replies and help so far.

Bit further on today, just a couple of issues left.
Fitted s/h green box, central locking now works and it appears to disarm immobiliser, well lights go out anyway.

Problems today are because I didn't see the locksmith dismantle the disco, s/h parts supplier isn't around today either.

Figured out that the fob has to be close to the round plastic bit, but can't see how it goes back over the lock.

Replaced the large plug on the ecu, but there is another one a few inches further up the wiring loom, white with 3 male bullet connections out of a possible 5.
I cannot see where this goes, Nor can I see where the ecu was mounted which might give me a clue where to look.

Last question, I've never fitted an ignition lock before, should the key turn in the lock before it is fitted or does it have to be in place. Works in the replacement door locks.

If I use a screwdriver to turn the black switch, I get ignition lights but only a click from the drivers footwell area when I try to start the engine.

Must be missing something but I don't know what.

Shameless bump guys, desperate!!.

Fitted lock but still left with relays clicking when I try to start.
Does anyone know what might be the problem please, also could it be the safety bit on the auto box that stops you starting in gear. If so how do I test.

Thanks for your time guys.
