Hello everyone,

Firstly I am new to this forum and new to landrovers. Bought my first one in sept and love it :) Freelander TD4 05reg, 2ltr automatic diesel.

Sadly though my new love is in the garage. My wife was using it the other day coming back on the motorway, all was fine when she hit some traffic and and had to move very slowly.. then when things picked up again, there was no power...
The fault management light came on (the one with the little exclamation mark in it) when she accelerated and there was very little power. The AA was called out and they did some checks and put it on their computer and got an error code of P1260 - Pre fuel pressure control - status intermittent.

It is in the garage today and the update from the garage is that they are saying code P1260 is something to do with the immobilizer.

The other symptoms it shows was a louder whining noise from the front nearside of the engine. There was also a significantly loud ticking noise coming from the area by the rear offside wheel arch, ie by the fuel tank.

The car has an extra warranty for mechanical issues and but not electrical.. what i dont want to do is pay for a new immobilizer to find out that it is something to do with the fuel pump or something else mechanical.

Also a few weeks ago i had a service done on it for my own peace of mind and that was all ok. The fuel filter was changed then.

I appreciate it could be a multiple of things, but what i am looking for advice about is the code - is it a fuel issue or is it an immobilizer issue. It starts ok, ticks over ok.. surely if it was an immobilizer that wouldnt be the case would it??

any advice is very much appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Well the vehicle is still running so I don't think it's a immobiliser you need.

Since the code points to fuel pressure It's likely to be the primary fuel pump under the arch. How many miles has it done?
Other thing could possibly be the pumps earth has been damaged during the filter change. Not sure if that would cause an intermittent fault.

You want to get that car out of that garage and into a proper LR garage,(Either independant or Franchised.) who dont use generic scanners - AND understand what the info from your car means. If there was an immobiliser fault the engine wouldnt even crank.
If they were using the correct kit they would be able to view the low and high side fuel pressures to lead them to the fault, which is what it sounds like it is.

That is what i thought about the immobilizer.. at the end of the day, no point having one if someone can start the car and drive it away, albeit at a slow speed...

I am limited at this point as it it covered under a mechanical warranty but I will wait to see what they come back with on Monday... if they still say it is the immobilizer then i will take it to the guy i get it serviced by who deals specifically with Landrovers...
