Hi has anyone ever encountered some sort of problem like this? Every 6 months or so I have to top up the fluid in the cup behind the engine (which is very hard to reach) and the gears will become more rough to engage each time this happens.. no leaks are noticed under car..what is happening? Apart from this now Im having problems with pulsating brake pedal..Probably the discs had gone bizurk ... what do you suggest as brake pads? as Im gonna change those aswell.. Im trying to find a rear seat for my landy to import to Malta..Anyhelp? thanks

Sounds like the clutch master cylinder (or slave I always mix-up which is which but I think the slave is down near the clutch with the master up on the bulk-head behind the engine.)
In my defender the seal in the master cylinder was gone so the fluid was getting past the rubber and rendering the hydraulic action ineffictive.

Technical bulletin LN308-001v3 for the freelander explains the same problem.

Replacement parts are as follows for the different models :-

K1.8 RHD STC000160
K1.8 LHD STC000210
Td4 RHD STC000020
Td4 LHD STC000171
