I think this means i ned to get a new fuel pump.
I am losing power and revs on long hill climbs.Any other ideas other than a dodgy fuel pump.I should add that if i waggle the lever i cant get any diesel to come out of the bleed valve.

Ideas?

what engine is it? Is it a Td or is it a TDi??

My Td won't do more than 30-40 up a moderate hill :)

also if your landrover is red then it won't go up hills anyway.

Its a 2.5 tdi 1991.
When i say losing power i mean the revs die slowly and i need to climb down the gears and it definatly feels as though the power is being lost. When i undid the fulel bleed screw ontop of the filter i could not get an diesel to come out when bleeding the system Suspisous!!

Ahh I see, mines got the old TD engine and I get exactly the same kinda thing, that coupled with it being red means I cry when I see a hill!! haha. Hmm I'm not sure, could be worth finding out how much pressure is at the injectors before you spend loads of money on a pump.

Have you tried the engine over a bit? If the drive to the fuel pump is in the 'wrong' engagement, the manual lever doesn't work. You can either try 'random' repositions with the starter, or - with the injector unions all loose- (you really don't want it to start) turn it over with a spanner on the crank, a few degrees at a time until you can feel the manual lift pump working.

If there is no diesel when you move the lever on the pump then it means 1 of 2, no 3 things.

1. Its on the cam lobe and is sitting on a pump stoke so you need to try it again, if it does work right away give the engine a blimp on the starter to get it off cam, then try it. OR, start the engine and unto the bleed nipple, diesel should shoot out of it as the lift pump should be delivering way more than it needs.

2. The little lever has cut into the arm it acts on, the cheap ones are made with a piece of pressed steel, the manual lever is a solid little piece of metal with a sharp angle at the edge, so your pump may be fine even if the manual pump lever is not. Replace it anyway.

Or hopefully the most likely reason, your pump is goosed and you do need a new one.

They do feel like they loose power going up hills because they do struggle with long inclines. In my 2.5N/A I have known to be down in 3rd on a steep motorway hill trying to keep up.

No less than 60 up big hills on the A14 and A1 back from Ipswich to leeds last night. That's with my N/A on massive tyres too!
