Evening all, i am 16 years and post GCSE's (summer holidays) i am looking to buy and restore a Defender. i have basic general knowledge about the car itself and about mechanics. I have looked over the internet and have found it very hard to stumble apon someone selling a broken landrover, they all seem to be over 2,000, and fully working. has any-one got any guidance/advice as to making this project easier. any input would be much appreciated. thanks Will

take on a couple more paper rounds , and get a dish washing job in a local pub , save it and might have a deposit by the time yer 30 ;):D
:welcome2: by the way , they all hold thier value you might get lucky but i doubt it :(

look harder:rolleyes:
i.ve just found a few that finish in less than 24 hrs all on less than a grand, one with less than an hour.
budget and location may help:eek:

go for a walk in the country ....
look for a beaten up old landy in someones drive that looks not to have moved - preferably with a flat tire or 2;) who looks to have newer vehicles and not to care about the landy no more

chap on their door - ask if they would like to sell it .....

seems to be how most folk get their bargains ....

Fett:D:p:p

Have you considered a Series Land Rover rather than a Defender? Lots of these going for well under a grand. I paid £400 for mine - it's a complete vehicle (MOT fail), basically sound, but in need of lots of TLC.

for got to say - any cheeky young whippersnappers turn up at my door trying to buy mine off me gets both barrels ;)

- mines in bits on the drive atm looking sorry for its self due to bulkhead repairs and a new engine going in :D

You need to think carefully about time scale and budget, as buying one is just opening the door to a lot of expense . They break for parts aproaching a grand , so anything less is going to be a bit of a shed. I would factor in a a new galv chassis £1400 for a start, if you are going to invest all the time and effort you wont want to be welding the chassis every mot time. Look on the bright side by the time you afford all the parts and build it you will be quite a bit older and so the insurance should be less . A series as suggested might be a good start , the market is much cheaper, so you can use it as a testing ground before moving on to a defender HTSH

Havent considered, not really at that stage yet. gotta get exams out the way before i can make a decision. but i think it may be a good idea, would ideally prefer a defender. but i'd happily settle for a series.

Why not steal one or get some one to pinch one for you.

I reckon a 300Tdi is best 90 or 110 u choose. All you need to do is mod it slightly - a lift kit plus some other touches, make it look like a modded pay n play special.

Half the sad sacks on this site wouldnt recognise their own truck under these rules so go help yourself.

Sure some of the more brain dead will bang on with feck this and chop the theiving c5unts nuts off the other but in reality they will not care for anyone elses vehicle. More likely to admire the lovely tidy chassis and bulkhead on your 84 rebuild with all those nice upgrades which you alone will know are not upgrades but the whole deal ringed the month before.

You will laugh inside every time one of the thickos on here spout off. I know I do LOL.

So just do it - as they say.
