BTW and just out of interest why you replacing the ECU?

I appreciate your input, I was told by my mechanic that it need to be replaced. The engine wouldn't start, not even any signs it would catch up, killed the battery. My mechanic says the there was a leakage in that part during the rain which damaged the Injection Control unit. I am not 100% sure as we did not test it by replacing it with another unit :( Well, I have no choice but to rely on him (mechanic). I also suspect that it could be Airflow Meter Sensor,
Any ideas?
Thanks again.
Cheers

Well that must be it then if a mechanic says so!!

Enough of the sarcasm already - seriously I wouldn't necessarily jump in that quickly. Search the forum there is a wealth of information to get a V8 going. There is much you can test first with nothing more than a multi meter. If you can get a substitute ECU and AFM then certainly do so, I have both and carry them as "essential spares".

If you post what sort of symptoms you had before it died then there is a chance somebody on here will be able to identify the problem and some of the peeps here really know their stuff.

My mechanic replaced starter on my truck after that I've noticed that engine is not running as smooth as it was before. I washed my truck in gas station, came home, I had new distributor cap, so I thought it might be a cause my engine was running rough, so I've changed it. Next morning I tried to start the truck and it showed no signs of life, at the end I just killed the battery.
I've checked the wires, spark plugs, ignition coil, fuel filter, they all seemed to be normal. I have some thoughts about AMF sensor or some relays. I towed the truck to mechanic and he told me that its Electronic Fuel Injection Control Unit. It is very expensive unit and I would like to hear some thoughts from experts before buying that unit.
Thanks for you time.

If it is a 14 CUX they go on e-bay for between £65.00 and £100.00 depending on demand.

What checks did you run on the ignition system? do you have a pattern rotor arm or a genuine Lucas one? Normally if there is an EFI problem I would normally expect to see the EFI warning light coming on. Would stronglt suggest you try to borrow an ECU to test by substitution.

Thanks a lot for your great help classic kev I've checked ignition coil wire if there was any spark and there was a spark, then I checked spark plugs, same thing. Next thing was fuel pump, was ok.. Now regarding the Injection Control Unit, I've checked dash board and couldn't find any warning sign located on dash board. Did you mean dash board or fault codes computer under passenger seat? There was no fault code on computer except Code 02 which meant that I've killed battery. Also could you tell me if this EFI control unit is suitable for my 1995 Range Rover Classic 4.2L as it has different part number.

Thanks again for your help:)

Respectfully,
Alan.

That's a 14 CUX alright!! I believe these are all the same but there are at least 3 different part numbers. The only difference I am aware of is that the actual casings have slightly different mountings on them but that is not really an issue because you can undo the screws and change the casings.

As long as your existing ECU is a 14 CUX I would say any other 14 CUX should work. The worst that can happen is it is the wrong one so you just put it on fleabay and get your money back. There is always somebody looking for an ecu - I have one duff one, one in the car and one as a spare! (and they have different part numbers).

How come you got a fault code readout thingy?? I thought those were only on US spec models - would love to get my hands on one of them.
