Long Brake pedal travel

I had a problem with a binding brake so changed the caliper and hose. It still ran much hotter than the other three brakes (150C vs 40C) so put on another new caliper and hose. This appears to have done the trick in that the temperatures each side are roughly the same, to within 10C or so which seems good enough.

I vacuum bled the new caliper and hose with the piston pushed all teh way back. I then use Blackbox to run the ABS pump while I sucked out some more fluid on the off chance there was something in the works causing the bind. Now the pedal has a lot of travel. The brakes work fine but the pedal ends up very close to the floor indeed on maximum push and this is not right.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Disco 2. Pedal travel was fine before running ABS. Removed quite a bit of fluid. Perhaps too much? If so, will need to do the whole thing again. At what point should I fire up the ABS pump to purge the block? Will I need to do so for each wheel or do the ABS system first via NSF wheel and follow on from there. RAVE only says to follow instructions on TestBook, which I do not have.

Pad retraction?

Are the pads loose in the caliper or are they slightly scuffing on the disc?

You may need to take the pads out, ease the brake pedal down to push the pistons out a bit then gently push them back in so the pads just fit.

This will exercise the seals and take up and slack.

Also is the pedal spongey or just long travel?

Pads are free and caliper brand new with free travel in and out. Also changed the hose (again) just in case it was dud. It is more long travel than spongy but there is some sponginess. I am pretty sure some air has got in. The more I think about it, the more likely it is that when the ABS ran on Blackbox, the level in the reservoir got low so I now intend to bleed the whole thing again.

Rave gives the sequence, which is fine, but do I push the fluid through with the pedal or get the ABS pump to do the work? Or first one and then the other? I am planning on taking the car abroad on Sunday, so really need to get this sorted. Any advice would be most welcome.

The pad seems fine but I have not had the wheel off to have a proper look. I will do so later on today, but I think that it will be fine. The carrier/caliper slides smoothly and the pins are very free. Push them against the boots and the rubber will push them out again, so no binding there. I think that I messed up on the bleeding, simple as that. If you have any knowledge of the ABS pump bleeding sequence, that would be really helpful.
