Right Guys & Gals, we have done loads of research on this as we have lots of Landrovers in the Scout association and it goes like this:
All Defenders 90, 110 & 130 (pre 2002) and all series vehicles (post 1974) DIESEL ONLY.
Are Utility vehicles and are under the scheme, the only way around it is to change them to petrol and have DVLA register them as petrol.
That is the only way.

No 5 door discovery is under the scheme regardless of fuel type as it is a car 'type of vehicle' on V5 says"estate".
The only exception to that is 3 door discovery's which were built using commercial bodies, about 50% of 3 door discovery's have "utility" written on the V5, if you have one of these, get it altered by DVLA now.
It is £100 a day to drive you un-modified 4x4 within the London LEZ and £200 a day for trucks and buses that don't comply.
But no one knows about ex-military vehicles such as 101 Forward controls, lightweights etc, London LEZ Say they have no listing for them.
Bet they include them though.
Anyway....Them's the facts.
Sorry..........It sucks I know.

RUBBISH... My diesel 110 station wagon is an estate and exempt... I live and work inside the LEZ and do not pay a penny, rather than post info that is not correct why not just tell owners to go to the TFL site and input their reg to see if they pay or not, Scaremongering doesnt help the situation and confuses people

IF YOUR V5 SAYS ESTATE YOU WILL BE EXEMPT, IT ALSO CAN BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH CONGESTION CHARGE EXEMPTION WHICH A 110 STATION WAGON WITH FULL SEATS CAN QUALIFY FOR... YOU CAN HAVE BOTH AS CONFIRMED BY TFL (THE EXPERTS) LAST WEEK ON THE PHONE...

1974?????? And are you certain its not diesel series vehicles post Jan 01st 1973??? as this is the cut off for tax exemption  (it is by the way :) )

Cheers Steve

and if your V5 says utility good luck getting it changed, DVLA are clamping right down and are refusing to alter without a manafacturers letter stating the error and Landrover are refusing to supply any documentation to support claims, already happened in several cases.

Cheers Steve

Probably got no listing as only offered as petrol when made?? ....101 fwd controls are exempt unless they have had an engine swop (they are v8 petrols), lightweights the same unless a dutch import who I beleive possibly had diesel variants along lines of Minerva or had an engine swop, in which case the lightweight would may foul as the V5 will say Landrover light utility.. no mention of lightweight normally, certainly the 3 ive owned were all like that, and the DVLA computer makes no differentiation.

Ebbadger....

Not Rubbish, Absolutely true, come 3rd January 2012 when the new Lez rules come into force, All utility vehicles listed as diesel by DVLA will be subject to the charge.

Before you start ranting, do what we did.............go direct to DVLA, London LEZ and VOSA.
All confirm what I said above.

And as I said, I don't know about the military vehicles because LEZ had no listing for them, and as you have now informed us, they are all (or at least were all) petrol.....hence LEZ having no listing.

But the charge will apply to all light 4x4 utility vehicles on an after 3rd january 2012.

Check your V5 if I were you.
LEZ has a registration checker on line, enter your reg and they tell you if your vehicle is affectted.
And it has absolutely nothing to do with the conjestion charging at all.

I was not scaremongering, just informing people of the facts as a lot of people hear all sorts of rumours and it all gets a little wooly.

What I have written is factual.
Check it out tomorrow.
It makes no odds to me personally, I drive a Discovery, which is a car and therefore exempt, but it was for imfomation only.

Oh and BTW,
Pre 1974 the LEZ dosen't apply.

No idea why they chose that date, but if your vehicle was first registered before 1st January 1974, it is exempt.

And the website is LEZ (NOT TFL)..........different dept.

Do you not read what you post???

your initial post says all defenders... this is incorrect... you have now changed your tune to utility vehicles??

defenders are classed as various things ,,,, check my logbook... sat in folder next to me... ESTATE!!!!! but without exclamation marks

It is exempt... correct your first post to Utility vehicles not all defenders as it is incorrect

and feel free to alter the series landy dates as that is incorrect also, i also own a tax exempt S1 so do know perfectly well

So your initial post covered 3 main points

1. all defenders are liable.... sorry incorrect if logbook states estate as many station wagons do

2. series vehicles are liable post 74... incorrect its post Jan 01 73

3. Commercial discos are liable... Yep totally agree

33%, sp ploease dont put 'The facts' in your posts when 33% wouldnt even get you an exam pass LOL

People will beleive things posted like that, so change all to utility only.... 74 to jan 01 73 and then feel free to call them 'The facts'

I own these vehicles and do know :)

The links also on the TFL website (Transport for london) .... look at the road users tab for advice on driving in london

Well i just put my reg no in (1984 90 2.5 diesel) and, surprise surprise..its non-compliant..

According to our records, the vehicle does not meet the required Low Emission Zone standards at this time.Find out how to comply.

Good job i'm not in london then..

Believe what you like........

It makes no odds to me, like I said I drive a car, and can't be arsed to argue the point with you, I ain't gotta pay it.

Direct from the LEZ site... just look at the exemptions section before trying to correct my post and again proving youself wrong... hmm holes looking deeper..

Exemptions
A small number of vehicles are entitled to an exemption from the Low Emission Zone (LEZ). These are:

Specialist non-road going vehicles designed and built for mainly off-road use, but which may use the road for limited purposes (including agricultural and forestry tractors, mowing machines, agricultural and farm machinery and equipment, mobile cranes and road and building construction machinery)
Historic vehicles built before 1 January 1973
Vehicles operated by the Ministry of Defence
If your vehicle meets any of the above criteria and is registered in Great Britain, it is automatically exempt and you don't need to register with TfL.

Bl***y hell youd almost think i knew what i was talking about :)

Cheers Steve

LOL Vicky Pollard strikes :)

joking aside and not wishing to put down what you thought was correct any further.... if you are going to post something and say its the facts.. make sure it is because people will take what they read as gospel even though they shouldn't

But I apologise if you feel I was attempting to belittle your initial post... I was simply correcting it.

Awww lets have a forum hug :)

Cheers Steve

I'm gonna pay, i value the planet and think this is a well thought out way to tackle the erosion of the atmosphere by mankind.

I hope by doing this i will receive a long oiled up titty**** by Katy Perry.

If not i shall demand my money back.

Course it's a rip off.......What they couldn't get rid of with the scrappage scheme they are going to get rid of this way.

It's all about getting everyone to buy a new car.

true no independants just contract with manufacturer, we will all have little euro boxes for the great unwashed, non of the greatest thing about landies there all different
