really fancy doing a Long way down type with the series 3.

'England, France, Italy, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa'

anyone done this before?

You might want to miss out the Congo - heard lots of bad reports, Border officials, hi-jackings, muggings etc etc . . .

there's a web site called Africa Overland Net - worth a look

The Africa Overland Network

Always fancied doing something like this as well, anyone inetersted in formimg a 'group' maybe could get some sponsorship to help with the costs ??

where eva you are in africa, NEVER EVER let your passport out of your hand...it will cost ya to get it back.....and a lot of places will charge you fuel tax for any fuel u have....plan yer route carefully

Grumbleweed,
Hmm have you thought about getting on a plane at Heathrow, its far easier.:)
Chances are you will be dead before you reach Sudan, if not the Sudaneese will get you.:(
The vehicle i can recommend to you is the good old Lada Riva, :D it was good enough for the Russian Mafia, i can guarantee you it will not be stolen and it will put smiles on lots of peoples faces.

Have you really thought about getting all that time off work, with pay ? or are you planning to pull a six month sickie ?
Enjoy your journey :p
I will not grant you the time off;) Best Wishes Ladarivafan

lada riva?- i'd rather cut the middle man out and shoot myself before getting one of those. Planes are for people who like airports and people- i like neither as a general rule. At least i dont get screaming brats kicking my seat in the landy.

i can take a career break from work so not worried there. Have no mortgage to worry about so what the hell- might as well do it before i do. thinking of 2010 or 2011.

Lada Riva, what wrong with that ? solid, runs on crap, plenty of room in the engine bay to work. You dont know anything about them.
Would you suggest i do it in a Citroen c5 2.2 diesel auto ?;)

On your travels i suggest you take plenty of money, you will need plenty of bail out money or you might end up being banged up for ages.
Have you seen midnight express
good luck
ladarivafan...LX version

now now 'girls' put your toys back in the pram . . .

Isn't this a LANDROVER site, Grumble is dead right, Lada's are good for only ONE thing - keeping food in !!

So go and join the Lada Owner's site - hey, you could be the 'founder' member :D :D

Id be interested in doin a trip like this, not for a couple of years though. Anyone else?

i would, just picked up my 110 and off to morocco for a "taster" two week trip near easter time to get the feel of africa ready for a longer trip in the future.

I really didnt realise that by asking that i would like to take my lada riva LX VERSION to Capetown would create so many negative responses :p Do you really think that i would take so a beautiful machine, hand built by vodka robots  off road !!! The last time i did that on a big right hand bend in Bolton, the door trim fell off :) Wow it was difficult to source another one:( Having travelled around the country it would seem the only people who drive 4 x 4's are women with one spoilt brat sat looking down at you at the back :D I get it now  they are designed for school runs:eek: I cannot really imagine a mumsie in all her glory driving down to Capetown, can you  most women dont where the filler cap is for the fuel ;) wouldnt get far would she :)
Not such a daft idea after all, requesting to take my lada riva lx version is it :p i dont mean to provoke anybody.
ladarivafan lx version

my series 3 wont even make it to the shops without something falling off. do yourself a favour get a toyota that way you might make it. LRs are good if you like fixing things and any place where the AA can come and get you home, wouldnt dream of going to Africa in one.

yeah but you know what i mean. any "japmobile" just gets on and does the job whereas any LR will breakdown but then thats the fun of it.
