Locking wheel nut key

Hello all,

I've come to change a tyre on my 110 (1998) and I can't find the locking wheel nut key. Plus, it seems to be a non-standard design. I've attached a pic, does anyone recognise the make or know where I could get the key from?

Smack an old socket over it with a hammer. It should grip enough to undo it.

I used to have locking nuts/bolts like that in the early 90's, no idea what make they were.

Being as you can get at it easilly I would try a good pair of Stilson's (A must in every toolbox, any tool merchant should sell them), they should have it loose in seconds.

Hi I had a similar problem 2 weeks back with my Impreza. The advice given was the same, hammer a socket on or Stilsons. Unfortunately neither was successful, I hammered a socket on but the wheel nut was too tight and the socket couldn't grip. I n the end I bought these: 5 Piece Bolt Grip Set - expansion set - Machine Mart

You hammer them on but they have teeth inside which cut groves into the nut/bolt and whip them off no problem!

I've got a couple of sets of them myself. They are preety good on wheel nuts. You can also get sockets that cut a thread in as you try and undo em. Looking at the nuts he has though a socket should work as there's plenty to grip onto.

use an angle grinder to cut a notch into it and then use a hammer and gash chisel to hammer the nut round.

If you clean the end up with a bit of wire wool or emery cloth is there a letter stamped on it?

pipe wrench with a bit o scaffolding on it or jus a cold chisel and knock the crap outta it till it comes off

weld a nut on to it. its cheaper than losin a socket.

I'll check this tonight. If there is, what's it's significance?

They look like the Landrover locking nuts to me, they have a letter stamped on them, if it has you can just buy the correct adaptor.

Why not just pop along to your nearest friendly tyre-change place? They have it off in seconds either with the correct key or an appropriate tool and should be able to advise on what the key is, even if they haven't got it. I'd really be looking to find the right key as presumably you've got the same nut affixed to at least three other wheels. It does indeed look like an LR type - I had something looking very much the same on my Hippo.

yup - if they are LR - then at least one will have a code letter on it - go to LR with that and they can get you the correct key.

thrash an impact socket onto it and undo it

the wheel nut is one that paddocks sell and they dont have any id on them its only the adapter that does i had the same problem

took all the nuts off ,bought a new set and a spare adapter just in case

i have just got a 1994 discovery but did not get the key for the wheel nuts were can i get one from ?
