I have a tax exempt 1971 series 2a lightweight 2.25 petrol updated to a series 3. A local chap has called at my house and wants to buy it but I really don't know what to ask for as I had not planned on selling.

If this list doesn't bore you - read on...

It is not a perfect military model or show vehicle - though it is undercoated and Nato Greened only last year (roller). No dents. New doors, new door tops, side impact bars, new road tyres all round and Rocky Mountain parabolics all round (which gives a 2" lift by default). Free wheeling hubs. No rust - as in NO rust. The superior Dutch military rubber canvas & new hood stick set. Galvanised tub cappings. Stainless steel straight through exhaust pipe. New rear cross member. Re-wired. New Defender lights all round. Rear tub lined with duralloy. Bulkhead great. Fly screens removed and area plated with aircraft alloy, plus a 4 mm thick steel strip welded across top of bulhead for strength. Dual servo assisted brakes. New brake pipes etc. Tub lined with fitted alloy. Waxoyled to death. Two excellent modern Ford front seats, but series seats there also. 4mm plate welded steel petrol tank in rear tub. Side mounted water and jerry can holders with both cans included. Footwells repaired in glass fibre - therefore no future rot. New Nato Convoy switch, working smiths heater, and Kenlowe fan. A military recon series 3 gearbox just fitted. Defender diff in rear and one ready to fit in front. Defender hinges fitted - no stealing of doors! Galvanised military bumperettes front and back. New hub seals all round.

I don't want to rip this guy as he is genuine and the sort of chap who will look after it. It is totally waterproof and starts on the button. Always dry stored and ready to MOT. What's the fair price?????:confused::confused:

Any comments welcome - thanks.

Tell him you'll put it on ebay and he can have a bid on it. He ain't looking to give you what it's worth if he can help it that's for sure.

difficult as its not quite original and looks like it would be hard to turn the clock back on it.

i think £1500 minimum so aim high and see what he says. whats it worth to you/in your eyes?

Thanks for all the advice chaps. Yes I think 1.5 - 2K is the right ball park. Rightly said - he'll want it as cheap as possible. Sometimes Ebay can be wildly variable - I am in Ireland - not as many people want to ferry a vehicle home from here! I'll dig out pics and stick 'em up.

pics would be nice. Be interested to see what your 2a is like. Here is mine.

Read an article recently from EMLRA that only approx 200 2a's are now in existance on the roads/working.

food for thought.

ai, not really noticed. the quick release doors on a lightweight are never very "fitted" :)

it only takes 1 split pin removal and the doors come off! joy. looking forward to summer :D
