hi all again

My ever reliable landy had sprung a new problem on me ;)

the short of it i went out to the car and realised the key fob dident work so i checked everything with the fob and it seemed fine so i opened with the keys and noticed the central locking dident work so i thought dead battery :( i thought i might have left the light on but to my surprise i hadent? so i put the keys in and radio and everything came on! even my full beams were fine. but the card responded with noting when trying to start so i thought maybe its the immobilisers as the fob still diden't work so i was just going to the fuse box and boom the alarm kicked in fob still diden't work. so i grabbed my tools from the boot to disconnect the battery and then it went off? and the fob everything was fine, so to all intense purposes the central locking alarm and now all fine but the car wont start not even a hint of starter going but i can hear a solonoid type clicking from behind the dash on the drivers side but every ting looks fine (no dodgy wires ect).

What could this be?

Regards

EDIT

its a 200tdi K reg (93)

i've had a coffee gone back out and then had a look so see if there is any dodgy wiring!

the car now starts. but i've done nothing

here is what happened i turned the igniting the clicking started again but i kept the key turned then the hazard lights came on???? and then i header kicking in the passenger foot well and then LIFE!!!!

im now curious what could be causing this?

As you've got a 200tdi the first thing I would check is the condition of the fusible links in the main battery +ve cable.
These things, they cause all sorts of problems due to corrosion.

Thanks nice im just off to pick the kids up and then i'll get some heat shrink and give it a go it wont harm to re do them anyway ;)

the kits are quiet pricey

could i just not solder them or grab a fuse box from another disco say a disco 2 and put that in instead. eliminating these little links?

I wouldn't suggest the replacement kit, that was just to give you an idea of whats involved.
The best idea imo is a fuse box from a 300tdi but you could just repair what you find with a bit of soldering.

Well thanks nicedayforit, soon as i pulled the sleeve off it was obvious that was the problem and tbh i think the previous owner had a go it was a right mess and all the wires were fastened in by a screw terminal wrapped in insulating tape (yellow and green) not something i think land rover do as standard lol

but its all back up and running i just used crimp buts as with all the rain and wind the solder just wasn't taking :( well so i thought ;)

the only problem i have now is if i have my headlights on and then use the jet wash for the front window wiper it cuts all power the lights go out and the clock and radio reset, it only come s back on if i switch the light on and off... its a novel experience driving down the M1 and then the lights go out! lol

i know i've got a short some where but it was a right mess under there.. wish i took a photo now im off the the scrappys tomorrow in hope they have a a disco 300td in there for scrap.

but thanks your advice was a savior ;)

I had this problem a few months back, turned out to be corroded crimps on the fusible links specifically the ones next to the brake servo. I had posed the question about a repair kit and the one mentioned in this string costs in exess of £100. I have looked into replacing with an engine bay fuse box from a 300TDI which you can get for a slittle as £5 on ebay. I was able to repair mine by stripping back and soldering then wrapping the joint in a self amalgamating tape which is water proof.

I will fit the 300 TDI fuse box in the summer when I replace the corroded inner wing.

Just been to the scrappys and picked up a fusebox set me back £5 so can't complain

its from a Range Rover but i took the mount so there should be no problems, it has also has some big 60amp fuses ect in so just need to sort the wiring out, but when i put my winch and other things in this year i can just use this fuse box rather than taking out the dash.

tho on another note he did have some leather seats for the range rover and he want £50 for the set hmmmm just seeing if they will go in the disco now ;)

and final thanks for all your help ;)

Glad to see you're getting it sorted.
Your headlight problem is almost certainly related to a bad connection in your fusible link wiring.
Hopefully the problem should go away when you get the chance to fit the fusebox.
