Light Armor For A Bit Of Off Road Fun

I was thinking of fitting 'diff guards' and a 'steering guard' to my 90 as some of the tracks off road are becoming quite deeply rutted on either side. Is there a good place to buy cheap 90 protection? and need i add more to my list of 2 items? (also is waxoyl spray application better than the paint on stuff?)

Any advice would be great

"Shiny bits" are a dividing topic, some say you don't need any, others say it protects against damage.

You need to wack components hard to inflict damage; mud is harmless, rocks might hurt!

My off-roading is limited to getting across the ground these days, and as such I no longer have any shiny bits, it all depends how much of a beating you intend to give the vehicle.

As for Waxoyl, it tends to wear off when beaten about the same whether sprayed or painted on, though the spray no doubt offers a better asthetic finish

My advice would be not to drive the lanes if they are getting that badly rutted. Fitting a steering guard will just get you stuck worse as you will dig it in if the vehicle needs recovering backwards.

Gywn Lewes do some lovely diff guards and they are pretty cheap.You have to weld them on. I got one and it is a well designed bit of kit. Well pleased.

I have bent two steering links on my90 so now have a steel steering guard.It doesnt take abig stone if your wheels are in ruts.I often bent them on my series too think theyre quite exposed.

Paddocks do substantial diff guards for about £17 each and a 3 piece galvanised steering guard for around £40. I have those on my 90 and they've definitely saved my steering a few times. The steering guard was a pig to fit but only because I couldn't get the bolts out of my chassis so I drilled new holes in the guard and used some other holes in the chassis that were empty. Phone them for the parts because they're not on the website.
