HI all

Well i got the bug now so i intend to go offroad with my Disco :D so now looking at lift kits.

What height would you recommend? been looking at several kits that have everything you need to do the job although on some threads it says to buy the componants you want ie springs, shocks, mounts etc

I want a kit that will give me better off road ability but not kill on road manners;)

i have a 3 inch kit its ok not too much of a boat but it is hungry for props if you dont get wide yokes

Ok thats sounds about right, so if i have a 2" lift kit fitted can i run the bigger tyre combo without arch issues or will i need to cut them about ??

Been looking at a few wheel deals and the average height is 31-33" tall, which is one hell of a tyre :D

But dont want to buy a set then find out i dont have the clearance later !!!!

Your not hanging about loony!
Have you tried you new motor off road yet? A lift kit isnt always neccescery. But like mhm sed 2" is the usual much more and you need to fiddle with brakes and props and castor arms

yea mine has cranked trailing and radius arms +4inch brake lines loads of arch chopping im running 32x11.50x15 mud terrains on 15x8 mach 5's

Not been off road as of yet :( but hoping to this weekend:D checked the underside of the car for rust etc and its very clean and looks like its never been off road !!!!! Gonna be getting the decat pipe and egr blanking kit hopefully today so i can fit it next week ;)

Is it worth getting the turret thingy bobs ?? which allow the strut to compress right up ?? Or just go with a 2" lift kit and a set of spacers ??

I know how i want it to look ( im a tart :D) just need the parts

cheers

Couldn't agree more,

Just cos yer Landy's lifted dont mean ya wont get stuck.
It may help yer ramp over angle but No lift kit is gonna get yer diff higher orft the gound.

Then of course where do yo stop 2" lift, 6" lift, Bigger wheels, Portal Axles all may increase the vehicles ability but not yer own;)

I know what your saying but without a lift i cannot fit in the wheel/tyre combo (33inch) i would like !!!! I have a "look" in mind :D

Sitting high on big rubber in all its black glory, fitted with a nice steering gaurd ( possible winch ) chequer plate trim panals and some spots

Im a tart i know but linked to a full decat, egr and an ecu tweek or two it should have a little more grunt too

But since finding this site and a few others i keep thinking of a dedicated off roader !!!!! But still cheaper than preping and racing my Subaru Impreza

Its all good

Well every hobby ive ever done has the same saying "all the gear, no idea".
Not accusing any one of this but not a bad idea to see what off ya wish list ya really need.

Personally, I'd concentrate on making sure that the vehicle is structurally sound first, then adding protective items such as steering guard, diff guards, tank guard, rock sliders.

For me, lift kit will proberly be one of the last things that I end up spending my money on.

the disco in standard form is very capable off road, add a set of mud tyres and it turns awsome...

My standard disco went everywhere the lifted ones in my club went, you gotta hit some serious ruts or steps before the standard form lets you down.

Now once you start changing the size of the tyres to give better lift, you start shredding diffs and breaking half shafts, the extra strain on the drive train will shear something at some time.

Of course there's always good driving tequnique over wheel spinning raw power and off road mods.

Land Rovers evolve over time as you apply mods you feel are needed, it's also kinda nice to do it that way...

Drive it off road with road tyres a few times... you will be suprised what it will do

I've bin out in the hills with heavily modded Defenders etc and my bog standard Disco was the only one not broke in some way at the end of the day - up you though, you pays yer money.......
