Hello All,
I have seen several height lift kits available on the WWW.
but I wondered if there was a maximum you could raise the
Freelander before needing to do other things like extending
brake hoses and the likes..

heights I have seen are;

25mm (0.984 inch)
35mm (1.377 inch)
40mm (1.574 inch)
50mm (1.968 inch)
75mm (2.952 inch)

I don't want to be modifying anything,
I take it that you just fit these to the top
mounts of the suspension arms..Job Done??

Thanks in advance..

It's obviously different depending on your tyre size.
You might need to adjust the wheel camber as well.

I have no idea of actual numbers. Would be good to get a definitive list posted.

215/65/16 standard Land Rover 16" 5 spoke wheels..

with 30mm Hub-centric spacers..

not sure if that makes any difference??

I would as a standard procedure get the Lazer 4 wheel
alignment done after suspension work is carried out,
this does camber as well I believe..

From what I have read, 40mm seems to be the optimum, and SES88 is selling or has sold some kits. They just bolt to the top of your existing struts. He recommends the inner wing is slightly modified, but I'm waiting to find out what. He also recommends the fitting of Camber pins by Monroe. It doesn't need new brakes lines.

The 50mm and above will need the inner wing mod, camber pins and extended brake hoses.

I suspect the 75mm is a bit extreme.

I have a 40mm kit waiting to be fitted. Just waiting for the camber pins before I get it booked in to be fitted.

Once all the bits are fitted, Terrain Vehicles will take it across the road and get all 4 wheels laser aligned. This last step is essential, and to be honest, recommended for any vehicle as so many are out of tolerance in my experience. The MX5 for example frequently handles like a pig, but when set up properly, is really sweet.

You can only adjust the camber if you fit the camber pins, all you can adjust as standard is caster and toe.

I've got 3 of my current batch of kits left if you want one, as said, 40mm kits are really the highest you can go to guarantee that you won't need any extended brake lines etc. I'd rather recommend that you trim the inner wings while the struts are off though, just to be safe than sorry (plus its easier while the struts are off), and if the track rods catch on the MOT, its an instant fail ;)

If you are eBay ID ctr-88 then I've just ordered a kit from you.
Any chance you could show a photo of which part I'm supposed to trim?
Will take your advice & do a proper job while the struts are off.

Yep, thats me, hold on i'll pop out to the car and get a snap

Excuse the mud, but you get the idea, the inner arch (metal and plastic parts) have been trimmed back to allow the track rod more movement. They were sprayed with a galvanising spray to give the bare metal cut face a little protection.

You're a star :high5:

Thanks for the pictures.
I'll get the compressor fired up and the cutting tool out and try to do a neat job!

Great stuff I will note all of these things, as I think that after the latest round of Christmas present purchases I may need to wait a while before doing this myself, glad I started the thread though as some great info all in one place now..

Dont go moving them pics though you hear me..SES88

Ah yeah I forgot it was secret mods only :p She might notice that she has to lift her leg higher to get in the car...unless you build her up for a few weeks saying she looks shorter then all of a sudden its harder to get in the car ;) although if I did that with SWMBO i'd end up with a knee in the bollocks
