Hi Guys would like to know what is life span of our shocks and the mountings? i heard from a mechanic that every 40Kmiles we need to replace all the 4 shocks as it is gas fill and we can't detect if there is a leak.

Really does depend on how and where you drive.
Mine off roaded at every opportunity, down a dusty quarry every day for 18 months, rarely carried much weight.
Front shocks both were replaced by the dealer under warranty at 50k miles, rear shocks were fine.

In the old days that use to be the norm for saloon cars but things have moved on a bit, if the dampers leak, knock or the vehicle bounces then it's time to change.

All dampers are oil it's just the gas ones have a pocket of gas on top of the oil to improve the dampering under hard or extreme conditions. So if the gas is leaking so will the oil. Sounds like the mechanic is a kwick fit mechanic.
For more info on the construction of dampers just go to the manufactures web site.
