mind yu - he wouldnt do anything till Adz took him to oneside and told him that he had a "personal hygiene" problem - I was the only one that wud sit with him.:(

Hey, septic here, glad to see a few good men sticking up for the Merkin, even though us Merkins don't need too much standing up for...we seem to charge right into places that don't want us all over the world!

But ol' Marcus, a man who knows his Sturmey Archers and Brooks saddles... that's why the Brits and the Merkins still have something in common. Appreciation where appreciation's due.

So yeah, that's a mountain bike on the back. That's how I get my adrenaline buzz...and time away from the wife. Thing is, the bike has actually got disc brakes and coil springs, unlike the Landy. And fair dues, it even cost more than the Landy. I like to accessorize it too, with all sorts of high tech bits and bobs of titanium and carbon fibre. So I guess that makes it more of a Bowler Nemesis...rightfully being toted around by a Series III. See, all is right in the world.

Hey I've had a go at our Myrtles grannies owld gridiron today a 1930 BSA Brooksis saddle, Sturmy Archer three speed hub, rod brakes, wicker basket, Dynamo in the front hub. I'll get a pic of it if yer want.

Yeah, let's see it! In the states we call 'em Klunkerz...but the off-road revolution didn't happen until the 70s there - which birthed the mountain biking scene which is popular today.

But I've seen evidence here in Europe that nutters have been taking there "gridiron" off road for far longer than that... I'd love to have an old 1930's BSA, sans basket of course. That's a piece of history!

The best place to ride when I wuz a young'un on was in the meadows at the back of our house. We set up one course which went down the railway bridge embankment about 40 foot high witha 1 in 1 slope a few yards from the bottom was a drainage ditch about 4 feet deep we'd come out of the otherside of the ditch fook knows how far off the ground and ****ing wet through. It'd put any Landy offroad video to shame.

Sadly I remember taking me saddle off & replacing it with a rolled up anorak tied on wiv bungey cord, making up a sissy bar out of dexion, cutting the tubes off of another pair of front forks, grinding off the lumps on my own forks then hammering the others on to extend mine, fitting a smaller rear wheel, running the whole lot sans brakes & crowning it off with with a pair of ridiculous apehangers.

Easy Rider had a lot to answer for!

Thankfully I did a slightly better job of my Shovelhead many years later!
