well i have said and always said, if you have what is classed as a prestige motor(probably any car for that matter) the you will need to

a, pay for the dealers/mechanics time or
b, learn to do things for yourself and get yr hands dirty or
c, you don't trust the mechanic and want a second opinion.

now your options are as follows:
diagnose the problem with logic i.e if its electrical: check the things that are'nt gonna cost much, fuses, connections etc. this way you can get a good idea if your bieng flanelled and source the part and fit it yourself.

go to someone you trust, friend/family member etc, ask thier opinion.

i suspect tho as you seem to be able to afford quality services, you will take it to the stealer and get the proper reciepts etc.

now you say the sat nav is in the boot, and theres a fuse box in the boot, i suspect it could be water in the boot. check carpets for water. now check the area of the fusebox and sat nav. if not check all fuses and connections, can you hear satnav working/lights on? do interior light operate???

Thanks Gav,

Its not that I like being so **** at this kinda thing & have to take it to the "Stealers" My head just don't work that way!
Ask me to build a website that can take 17,000+ visitors a day & I may be able to make that work.

My worst thing is that I never trust any work I have done on a car! I'm always thinking are the wheels going to fall off!
So I guess its best not to do the work.

I will take a look at the fuses & make sure there is no water in the boot when I get home later ( I think I can manage to do that).

Thanks for your time & help I'll let you know as soon as I know.

PS do you know anyone thats NOT a "stealer" in the Nantwich area that would like to help for cash when these things happen?

Joe

oh dear, nantwich!!!! the guy that wrote my last car off was from there, hope your driving skills are better than his! in fairness tho it lead to me getting my range rover so it's not all bad.

as for a landrover fixers there are many, again it's price and experience. i prefer the back street types but the guy i use for my parts is top class and offers advice too, one of the questions i ask is if they can do all the diagnostics on a range rover, that way you know they are serious about landrovers, also get the price of a diagnostics check/to switch lights out etc. i pay between 25 and 35 quid, he writes down the faults and tells me the fixes, supplies the parts, i do all the work tho as uncle has a fully equiped garage with ramp etc.

i wasn't having a go at you for not bieng mechanically minded, although i would have a go if you had the 'can't be arsed' attitude. the world works by people bieng better at things than others, i cannot build websites at all, i dont understand them but thats because i have never had the reason to learn, yet, i can fix: boilers, plumbing, cars, bikes, computers, various bits of houshold electricals and most houshold building maintenance except brick laying cos it bore the crap out of me!!! it's all a matter of 'confidence' and if its broke it cant get much worse! lol

check all logical stuff and do all the cheaper stuff at home in the garage.

mind you if the l322 follows the track record of the p38 then you will learn how to fix cars!!! lol

sometimes tho its worth doing an extra shift at work and let some one get greasy hands for you!!!!!!

hth and do let us know how you get on as no doubt someone will have the problem!!

To understand what fuses are for what download Rave CD and look at electricle section. I needed to remove fuse for clock which i the owners manual was the same one as for ABS and air suspension, nothing to do with car audio or clock. I think there are fuses in the glove box, under the bonnet & in the boot.

Where can I down load it from?

Sureshots, did you get sorted?

I had a quick look in RAVE and I think fuse 8 was common to the radio and Sat nav.
Hi,

No it was gone 8pm when I got home so was way too dark & a 14 hour day is about as much as I can do! (too old & fat to work more!)

I'm going to try again if I get home before night tonight!

Which fuse box is "fuse 8" in?

Thanks
Joe

Fuse 8 is 5A and located in the passenger compartment fuse box which is behind the glove box, it supplies the radio and the radio remote display. Page 218 in your owners manual tells you how to drop the glove box to gain access. There are also two other fuses 49 & 53 both
30amps.

only other thing I can think of is a failed connection somewhere.. you'll need to get the stereo or screen out and see if a connection has come lose and also check the connections at the other end where the nav control box is... I think someone mentioned in the boot.. if there's nothing obvious you'll need a test lamp or a proper multi meter if you have one.. which wires to test though I aint sure as it's a bit more complicated than stereo's I'm used to.. has the rave cd got a wiring diagramme for the stereo?

Thanks for that but fuses are about as far as I dare go with this.

I'll take in to the shop & see what they say

I know if I go pulling at things I'm going to reck more of her, & as I have not even done 100 miles yet I dont want her up in flames!

OK 3 weeks in the shop & I now know why!!!

It has water in the back left boot compartment, which has got into the satnav unit which has blown the satnav & radio & parking!

Can someone PLEASE HELP and tell me how can water get in there?
Its been sat on my drive almost since I got her all locked up NO windows open or doors.

I have had this thing water tested or so Im being told! & they can find NO way that water can get into there unless I put it there! Which I know Iv not coz that would be not just daft more like fu*king stupid!!!

Could this be a design fault on the range rover 2004 + ?
