Hello all (again),
Well after initial joy and happiness of buying my freelander last week, i am starting to notice a few problems. One of which is a couple of leaks underneath.:(
One is about a foot inwards from the rear, pretty central (think its diesel) and the other is a about a foot and half in from the front central again.
Could the first be summat to do with the exhaust backbox on its way out?? would it leak??(which i already knew about).
I have very basic mechanical knowledge so tekin into local garage this week but just wondered if anyone had previous knowledge and what to expect.
Cheers

Nod,
The front one, have you had yer aircon running? if so look at yer engine bay, back right i think, you should see a black pipe drops down to open air..its the fluid dump out yer aircon..if you ain't got aircon, I aven't the foggiest....:(

cheers for advice,
Found the problem, me mate had a look and the leak at towards the front looks like the seals have gone on the transfer box (along with vcu this was replaced in march before i bought it) so going to get it sorted asap.
As for the leak towards the rear...???it seems that its the same leak just that when i have noticed the oil on floor at both ends my car was parked the opposite way! (silly me)

just thought id let ya know!;)

It was a oil leak, due to the seal on the transfer box breaking.
When the bloke at local garage,(Ex-LR mechanic came Highly recommended from a mechanic who i know.) took a look, a bearing(i think) on the prop shaft(again i think! not very clued up on mechanic side of things!) had bust coz it was ****ing grease all over as well.
Gave me a price of £180 which i was satisfied with, i went back to work and a hour later he rang to tell me to come and have a look at the state of the transfer box they had removed, this was a reconditioned box put on in feb before i bought it.
He showed me inside the box and a flat disc about 3inch diameter was,to their horror just glued on (bodged) so it looks like another 100 quid. Get it back tomorrow.
Have i got a leg to stand on with the garage that fitted the transfer box?i have got the reciept that says 30 day warranty on it so im guessing not.
ps i bought it private, and the dodgy garage is an hours drive away!
