youve been very unlucky as bearing takes the wear not the pin,i rebuild all units and ive rebuilt thousands of axles over the years ,bearing should just be a nice sliding fit

Yep, definitely seen some worse for wear pins, thinking perhaps as preload slackens the bearings may be encouraged to move around slightly.
I don't know, have got a few oldies in the cellar as far as i know, might see if there any bad ones there for a picture.
